On this day, on 30 January 1894, Boris Clemens Robert Maria Pius Lodewijk Stanislaus (Борис Клемент Роберт Мария Пий Станислав) from the House of Sachsen-Coburg and Gotha was born in Sofia. On 3 October 1918, after his father Ferdinand I abdicated the throne (following the Bulgarian defeat in World War I), Boris became Tsar of Bulgaria as Boris III. On 28 August 1943, Boris suddenly died (heart failure? poison?) and was succeeded by his six-year-old son Simeon.
