The Impala (Aepyceros melampus) is a common species. Still, every sighting of an Impala is a joy to behold. His beautiful shiny light brown fur, his stately posture and dark eyes. You can't help but photograph them over and over again.

Impalas are agile, even-toed ungulates. Both male and female Impalas are similar in colour with a reddish/brown coat, white bellies, chin and tail and black-tipped ears. They have a characteristic ‘M’ marking on their rears. Like many other antelopes, male Impalas have long, pointed, spiraling horns which can measure 90 centimetres in length. Female Impalas have no horns.

The Impala usually lives in large groups or herds. And then it becomes quite a challenge for four-legged or two-legged hunters to get close. So many eyes, noses and ears quickly pick up a sound, smell or movement. And then a short call from one of the herd is enough for everyone to run for safety. Leaving the hunter with an empty stomach.
