Hi friends and travelers!
We should have done this awhile ago, but for the second time we're announcing that we've shut our doors. This time, we're not planning to come back.
Thank you all for your support as we tried to make travel for sustainable and inclusive.
Stay safe and well!

EURO2 BIKES | The Neutravel Company and EURO2 Bikes

Hi there.
Should we even ask how your 2020 is going?

Ours is starting to look a little better and we're allowing ourselves to be cautiously optimistic.

We've been getting a fair amount of one-way bicycle rental requests, which is really great news for us and Dutch tourism- bicycling is a good way to see the beautiful sights of the Netherlands without putting yourself and others at risk by taking trains and buses. We've even managed to provide contactless bicycle pick-ups and drop-offs.

Not comfortable traveling right now or deferring it until you feel it's safe? Send us a message and let us know, and we'll send you a discount coupon for 15% off your base rental price to be used in 2021 (or when the coronavirus situation is globally "safe" - whichever comes first).

We're keeping things small for now though, because the future is so uncertain. Our prices and offerings have been totally revamped to reflect our small fleet of bicycles and what we feel we can reasonably offer.

If you or some one you know wants to go on a one way bicycle trip in the Netherlands, Germany or Belgium, visit our website to learn more and submit a booking request.

Our tour operations are still mostly shut down, though private tour bookings are possible.

Stay safe and healthy!

Travel and Tours | The Neutravel Company and Euro2 Bikes | Europe

Hello friends,
Eve here. I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy during this challenging time.

After a lot of careful thought and introspection, I've decided to indefinitely pause operations of The Neutravel Company and EURO2 Bikes. The July 17 "Weekend Cruise Tour" is still scheduled to operate, but that will be it for this year.

It's possible that I may revive the company in the future, but it has become clear to me that this is not the right time for this business.

In the meantime, if anyone needs private guide services here in the Netherlands, advice on Dutch travel or advice on sustainable travel, this page and the website, https://neutravelcompany.com, will remain active.

I'm pleased to say that I'm alive and well and that the people I love are alive and well, and despite how difficult this has been, I feel that this is the right decision.

Thank you so much to all of you who have supported me in trying to bring this dream to life. We'll see what the future holds.

Please take care of yourselves, wherever you are.

All the best,

Eve Sapp

Do you want a virtual preview of the best parts of the Netherlands? Here are some great virtual tours and lectures to enjoy during quarantine and Coronavirus times. When all of this is over, we hope you’ll come join us for some off-the-beaten-path adventures, the ones that can’t be digitized so easily.

For kids or the young at heart. Not just Dutch, but hugely important to Dutch history is sailing and marine communication. This is a fun craft project to make marine signal flags.https://aamboceanservice.blob.core.windows.net/oceanservice-prod/education/for_fun/WhoBluePeter.pdf

Coronavirus in the Netherlands: new government measures - DutchNews.nl

Hi everyone! Eve here, owner of The Neutravel Company. The Netherlands received an update tonight from the government. We're essentially on lockdown right now. I'm going to think about this and hopefully I can still deliver some fun, educational content to you while also following the law and ensuring that I do my part to keep my community safe and healthy.

I hope that wherever you are, you're taking care of yourself and doing everything that you can to keep this virus from further spreading.

In the meantime, feel free to share how you're passing the time. I personally have decided to go back to the book that I was writing before I decided to start this company. It tells unique historical stories through food.

So what are you up to these days?

The Dutch government introduced a raft of new measures to combat coronavirus on March 23. These include: All gatherings to be banned up to June 1, but an exception will be made for funerals and church weddings. People should remain home unless they have to go out to work, to do shopping or to care f...

As promised, here are the extra photos and links concerning chocolate and chocolate history.

It has come to my attention that I didn't actually explain what is in Bupu, the frothy Zapotec drink that is emblematic of Juchitan, Oaxaca, Mexico. It is a slightly fermented corn-based beverage with cacao and local flowers. I've included a photo of it.

If you want to get really techincal with your cocoa butter based chocolate, you can try tempering it. Here are some suggestions from San Francisco based chocolatier, Ghiradelli https://www.ghirardelli.com/tempering-chocolate

Chocolate history and demo

19/03/2020

Hi everyone! Are you ready for the chocolate history chat and chocolate bar making demo? The first one tonight is starting right here in 40 minutes. Here are the recipes for the chocolate. The first recipe is for dark chocolate, one using cocoa butter and one not using cocoa butter.
The second recipe is for milk chocolate. I won't be demo-ing that one, but a lot of the method is the same.

Feel free to share the recipes. The live video will be here on our page and on the Chocolate tour event page.

DARK CHOCOLATE RECIPES

NO COCOA BUTTER INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup coconut oil
3 tbsp maple syrup, honey or whatever liquid sweetener you prefer
dash of salt (optional)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

COCOA BUTTER INGREDIENTS
1 tablespoon Coconut Oil
1 cup cocoa butter, roughly chopped (approx. 125 grams)
4 tablespoons maple syrup, honey or whatever liquid sweetener you prefer
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
dash of salt (optional)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS
Combine cocoa butter and coconut oil in a bowl or small pot. If you're not using cocoa butter, just put the coconut oil in the pot. Place this on a double boiler and melt completely over medium heat. Stir occasionally until melted.

While the oil/butter is melting, it's recommended to sieve your cocoa powder to remove any lumps. It's not necessary, but it will help.

Once melted, remove the bowl from the double boiler. Pour the melted cocoa butter/coconut oil into the cocoa powder. Whisk well until the mixture is smooth, glossy and there are no lumps. This is very important.
Add sweetener, vanilla essence and salt (if using these) and mix well.

Pour into silicone molds or hard molds which are lined. Place in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours. Keep refrigerated.

MILK CHOCOLATE RECIPE
3/4 cup Coconut Oil
1 cup Powdered Sugar
6 tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
4 tbsp Powdered Milk

INSTRUCTIONS
Place the coconut oil in a bowl or small pot. Place this on a double boiler and melt completely over medium heat. Stir occasionally until melted.

While the oil/butter is melting, it's recommended to sieve your cocoa powder, powdered sugar and powdered milk to remove any lumps. It's not necessary, but it will help.

Once melted, add the powdered ingredients one at a time, stirring well. Continue stirring until the mixture is glossy and smooth and there are no lumps. This is very important.
Pour the mixture into molds of your choice. Place in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours. Keep refrigerated.

Hi everyone! For those of you who attended and those who plan to watch later, thank you! It was good to give this "virtual tour" thing a shot and I can definitely say- it was odd to guide a group... without a group! I hope it was enjoyable for you, wherever you are. We welcome any and all feedback to help us create something enjoyable for our friends around the world who are staying safe at home right now.

As promised, here are the photos and links with further information on the topics I was discussing.

London, here we come!

Photo translation: Lightning fast to the heart of London

If you're planning a trip between London and the continent, take the train! It's faster to take the train from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Brussels and/or Paris to London than it is to fly. When you factor in luggage prices and extras, it's often cheaper too.

The best part? You can bring your own food and wine onboard with you. 😍

Boek nu.

⁣Random Dutch fact of the day: Stuck at a Dutch train station waiting for your connection? Time might pass faster for you, for a few minutes anyway, if you watch the 🕰. I’m serious now.⠀

Everytime a Dutch train station clock’s second hand reaches “12” it pauses until it recieves a signal from the “mother clock.” When it gets the signal, the minute hand advances to the next minute and the second hand starts again. ⠀

If you’re in a spot where you can see more than one clock, it can be fun to watch the second hands all reach “12” at different times, but restart all at the same time. It’ll shave a minute or two off of your waiting time.⠀
Does this phenomenon happen anywhere else?⠀

The Art of Slow Travel

True Story: We received a request from a travel agency for one of our tours of the Netherlands to end in Finland because "people don't usually go there and it could be a nice addition." From the northernmost point in the Netherlands to the southernmost point in Finland it's about 1,000 km as the crow (albatross?) flies. Now, we can probably chalk that one up to non-Europeans not knowing European geography, but it also ties in with this idea that on a vacation or trip, we should go to as many places as possible and as quickly as possible.

We're glad to see the idea of slow travel becoming more attractive to people. We think it's better for the environment and better for us. What do you think about the idea?

Have you ever come home from a vacation feeling more exhausted than you were before you left? The solution to that is slow travel.

We're putting together a tulip-filled, off the beaten path sailing and cycling tour for late-March and/or early-April of 2021.

Who likes the idea of a 5 or 6 night sailing trip onboard this beautiful ship? We'll sail past tulip fields and islands, which you can choose to explore by bicycle during the day, or enjoy from the decks of the ship. At night we'll anchor and sleep onboard. You get the best of the Dutch flowers without the crowds and madness of the typical tour locations.

So who likes the idea? Don't worry, saying you like it doesn't oblige you to book! 😊

OUR TOURS | Neutravel Company

Well folks, we have closed our 2020 tours for booking but don’t despair! When one tour closes, another one opens! We’ve opened up bookings for 2021. Keep an eye out too, because we’ll be adding more tours over the next couple of months.

We will have our On and Off the Beaten Path tour that will show you the highlights of the Netherlands at an easy pace while still not being overly touristy.

On our Springtime Cycling and Sailing tour, we’ll see real tulip fields away from the tourist crowds, bicycle and visit some of the iconic Dutch islands, while sleeping on a 19th century tall ship. More details on that one coming soon.

Finally, not mentioned on the website is a tour that we’re very excited about. This is definitely for the more adventurous types- tall ship sailing, cycling, kayaking and train travel to charming little Dutch villages. Does it get any better than that?

Stay tuned!

EURO2 Survey

Facebook friends! We need your help!

We were making some pretty big claims about tourism and what travelers want and we realized that we didn't necessarily have the data to back us up. So, since we love research, we decided to create our own informal survey- that's where you come in!

Our 10 question, mostly multiple choice survey is pretty fun (we think) and it's totally anonymous- we aren't collecting any contact information. No matter what your travel experience, age or future travel plans may be, please take a couple of minutes and let us know what you think. We want as many responses as possible. And please take a moment to share it!

Thank you in advance!

Hi there!
We updated our brochure format for the July "The Netherlands: On and Off the Beaten Path" tours and we thought you might want to see it! The tour itself hasn't changed. For a PDF and to sign up for the tour, visit us at https://www.neutravelcompany.com/tours

Also, keep an eye out for updates on our one-way bike rentals, coming in April. We're putting together some very cool partnerships!

Stay green!

We wanted our time with you too, London, so we hopped on the Eurostar from the Netherlands and here we are! Train travel is so much more scenic and relaxing than plane travel, and way more sustainable too. We love keeping our business travel green. Our normal campaign for sustainable travel is that “slow is sexy,” but the thing is, the direct train from Rotterdam to London only takes 3.5 hours, so... sustainable is sexy!

When we’re not meeting and networking, does anyone have any insider travel tips for us? We love art, vegan food and anything off the beaten path!

On a recent visit to a potential sailing ship partner, Muider Compagnie, we found true gezelligheid while having coffee and chatting, surrounded by plants and warmth. What’s gezelligheid? Why, it’s the very important Dutch quality of being gezellig. Still stumped? We’ll give you the definition, to help you understand one of the most important aspects of Dutch culture so that when you’re traveling the Netherlands with us, you’ll recognize and enjoy our gezelligheid. 😉

Our Story

We’re here to shake up European tourism. We have guided hundreds, maybe thousands, of people on group tours and helped educate people all over the world. We’re tired of the same old overtouristed places and unsustainable travel methods. Your time and our time and our beautiful world are all worth more than that.

I’m going to switch from the “we” to the “I” now and tell you how this all came to be. I’m Eve Sapp and I’m the founder of Neutravel Company. For the last 12 years I have worn a lot of hats, so to speak. I’ve cooked for luxury hotels, managed B&Bs, guided ghost tours, narrated on trains, tour directed and educated cruise ship guests. I’m also the daughter of Florida mango farmers who manage their own, small agri-tourist destination. I have been to over 30 countries, mostly as a backpacker, and have flown on hundreds of planes in my travels. My environmental impact as a traveler really didn’t occur to me, even though I tried to avoid eating meat and recycled whenever I could. I was certainly aware of my social impact, though, and tried to choose experiences that didn’t come with a high cost of human exploitation. It wasn’t until 2018, when I was called out by an environmentalist Dutchman in Taiwan that I started to “get it.” I love this planet and the people in it and I have a passion for traveling, but my traveling was contributing to the harm of the the very planet I claimed to care so much about. That day marked a turning point for me. I would quit my job as a cruise ship educator, reconsider my travel modes and move to the Netherlands… the be with the same Dutchman who kick-started the change.

While he and I explored the Netherlands, I discovered that there seemed to be a real lack of information out there about all of the adventure that the country has to offer. Why weren’t more people kayaking their way across the country? How was it possible that visitors came to this beautiful country and barely left the Randstad? Why were so many diesel powered motor coaches and boats still polluting the road and water ways? I thought that making a home in the Netherlands and involving myself in climate activism would mean that I’d have to leave tourism. The more I thought about it though, the answer seemed clear. The Netherlands was the perfect place to start in reinventing my travel style and in helping other people reinvent theirs. Thus, The Neutravel Company came to be.

Each day, our network grows as we form partnerships with people across the Netherlands and the sustainable tourism industry. As we grow, we plan to provide more opportunities for adventure in the Netherlands and beyond. We also plan to hone our sustainability practices, with the goal of offering 100% carbon-free tours. We also look forward to the day when we are turning enough profit to create our own social and environmental programs here in the Netherlands and abroad. In doing business with us, you’re not just choosing a “greener” vacation, but you’re investing in clean transportation technology, job opportunities for differently-abled people and the success of our small business partners from all over The Netherlands.
