After 5 years, we returned to Finnmark for another Finnmarksvidda Crossing! "This was not an easy walk in the park!", as someone said. Starting from Øvre Stilla, it took us 5 days and 92 km to cross the plateau, Iesjavri Lake -the biggest lake of northern Scandinavia- and to end in Karasjok, the Norwegian Sami capital. But what a special area and trek! The landscapes and colors, the special (northern) light, the Sami herdsmen we met on the plateau, the traditional Statens Fjellstue we passed, the birds and animals we saw and the arrival & stay in Karasjok: a secret kept..... The weather was pretty unpredictable: we started with very warm weather but in a few days it turned into arctic conditions with a mix of sun, head wind and very low temperatures.... (down to -21oC). Grateful to be able to do this with a wonderful group of Kuling-fans: thanks to Fébe, Bally, Ron, Harmke, Emmeline and my dear Maaike for your commitment, flexibility and perseverance and making this an unforgettable week. Happy to guide this group together again with dear friend and co-guide Christoffer Stange, under the care and support of Solgunn Hesseberg, our Oslo contact base.

The Young and Grey Expedition completed an exciting and ‘delightful’ trek through Langsua-Nationalpark. In 5 days we went from Storhøliseter to Skriurusten, Haldorbu and Storkvelbu before descending to Espedalen again. We stayed in basic but cosy huts, melting snow to produce our own water and enjoying the heat of a wood-fired stove. As often, this all allowed for frank and interesting personal conversations, bonding us as a team. John and Anna had a few challenging days but ‘passed’ with flying colors for their first trekking! Lots of snow in the area but rather icy because of the very cold weather (down to -24 C). A few windy and chilly days but the very sunny days made up for it! Fantastic views of sun and stars. Life is Good!

Returned yesterday from the Hardangervidda Trek, done together with Lennart Heinemeier. Four days, 60+ km, filled with sunshine, lots of fresh snow, hard wind, fun and some hardship 😃. The landscapes and the scenery at Hardangervidda remain unsurpassed!

An extra day in Geilo due to a storm passing by today (wind up to Bft 10). We skied around the lakes of Geilo in sunny conditions, with a lot of drift snow around us. Good practice for the goggles and the hood. 😀 Tomorrow starting off from Haugastol, southern direction towards Kraekkja. Life is good!

Just returned from a 5-day trek through Hardangervidda-Nationalpark with a fantastic team of back-country skiers. We started in Haugastøl and via Kraækkja-Halne-Stigstuv-Rauhelleren-Heinseter-Tuva we made our way back to the (very service-oriented) campsite in Geilo. We did 92 km in 5 days, with 3 extremely sunny days and a last stormy night (7-8 Bft) to top it off 😉. Thanks to Christoffer, Hauke, Ron, Ludolf and Jos for making it a great week together! Life is Good!

Friday we ended our Espedalen Trek in high spirits! At 5pm we arrived back in Ruten Fjellstue, after 5 days and 80 km of hard work through Langsua-Nationalpark. We made a round trip via Storholister-Oskampen-Skriurusten-Storkvelbvu. The team did very well, battling the sometimes rocky and slippery slopes. Kudos and thanks to Lennart, Juliane, Malu, Ewoud, Anne and Louk for being a wonderful team and being quick learners! Too little snow on the slopes but we were rewarded with very, very sunny weather throughout the whole week. And….. we saw the Aurora Borealis, very unusual at this latitude. Life is good! Pictures shown were made by Malu Hilverink, Lennart Heinemeier and myself.

Chase the Northern Light and get a taste of the Sami culture in one of the most remote and adventurous areas of Norway! We have two slots left for this mini-adventure in the wild and exotic province of Norway. Finnmarksvidda Crossing (3-10 April 2022) is a trek of 5 days and about 90 kms, bringing you from Alta to Karasjok, the capital of Sami country. This mini-expedition will also be your training ground to train and practice your arctic skills. Grab this opportunity for your digital and mental detox! Send me a PM or see all details on www.kulingtrekking.com/treks (picture Hauke Bendt)

Crossing of Finnmarksvidda: chase the AURORA BOREALIS (Northern Light) and get a taste of the Sami culture in one of the most remote and adventurous areas of Norway. Forbes magazine ranked this crossing in the top 5 ski treks in the whole world! This is the wild and exotic province of Norway.

This trek of about 100 kms brings you from Alta to Karasjok, the capital of Sami country. This mini-expedition will also be your training ground to train and practice your arctic skills; to be able to deal with (potentially very) low temperatures, chilling winds and long and hard days. This trip is demanding for both your body and mind but the rewards will be huge: we expect to see the northern light (Aurora Borealis), have a good chance to spot reindeer and will have interesting visits to the Sami huts along this trek.

We still have 2 slots for this one-week Trek, that starts on 2nd of April in Alta. Send us a PM or check-out all details on WWW.KULINGTREKKING.COM
