in 1888 Vincent wrote about ‘Starry Night over the Rhône’, which is now on view in the exhibition:
"the starry sky at last, actually painted at night, under a gas-lamp. The sky is green-blue, the water is royal blue, the fields are mauve. The town is blue and violet. The gaslight is yellow, and its reflections are red gold and go right down to green bronze. Against the green-blue field of the sky the Great Bear has a green and pink sparkle whose discreet paleness contrasts with the harsh gold of the gaslight. Two small coloured figures of lovers in the foreground."

Vandaag is het , de feestelijke opening van het nieuwe werkjaar van de Staten-Generaal. Koning Willem-Alexander rijdt in de Gouden Koets naar het Binnenhof in Den Haag en spreekt tijdens de verenigde vergadering van de Staten-Generaal in de Ridderzaal de uit. In de Troonrede staan de belangrijkste plannen van de regering voor het komende jaar. Rond 14.00 uur vertrekt de Koning naar Paleis Noordeinde, waarna hij met Koningin Máxima, Prins Constantijn en Prinses Laurentien op het balkon van Paleis Noordeinde verschijnt.
