The memorial to all men from Glasgow who were awarded the Victoria Cross. If I'm not mistaken that means at least 12 men who were awarded the VC during WWI. It is located next to the Glasgow Cathedral.

A big turnout tonight for the annual lighting of the candles on Christmas eve at the CWGC cemetery in Uden. Within 10 minutes all 703 graves had candles burning and most will stay burning until the 26th of December. Proud that my kids all came to help.

An evening of talking about WWII in and around Veghel with one of the guests bringing a very cool artifact. A damaged wooden propeller which was probably from a Halifax bomber that crashed nearby on June 23, 1943. More research required to be certain though.

Today's touring took us back to the north shoulder. We visited St Vith and Schönberg to talk about the 106th, then some other locations. The main stop of the day was the ceremony for the Wereth 11, these were 11 African American soldiers brutally massacred on December 17th.

After escaping from the Schönberg area they moved on foot through the woods hoping to find shelter. In Wereth they were welcomed by the Langer family but were betrayed by an unknown person. The Nazi's took them away brutally tortured them and finally killed them.

We also visited the Langer family house and saw the table where they had their last meal. We could not take pictures there so here is picture of the memorial. A very poignant afternoon. Guiding for the with

Our second and most important stop of the day was the American Cemetery in Luxembourg where we paid our respects to those in the army who never made it home. Our first visit was the grave of nurse Nancy Leo, killed in a car accident on her way to Paris on July 24, 1945.

On our way home from the Ardennes we stopped at a number of memorials such as this one in Schönberg in the Schnee-Eifel. Here the jaws of the 18th Volksgrenadier Division closed around two Regiments of the 106th Infantry Division, which subsequently surrendered.

A day out and about in the Ardennes, mostly on the lookout for tanks, tanks and more tanks.

Lest We Forget: The Mission, you can find it in New Orleans in front of the National WWII Museum. It commemorates the 80.000 men of the US Air Force that were killed during the war. The artist, Major Fredric Arnold (Ret.) was a WWII pilot who passed away in 2018.

Of fourteen original members of the group of Class 42-J P-38 fighter pilots, only two survived six months of combat: Jim Hagenback and Fredric Arnold. Much of their survival was due to luck. Years later, they vowed to each other that whoever was left standing would do something to honor the twelve. Lest We Forget: The Mission stemmed from their deep gratitude to the twelve original members of our Group that didn’t survive to live their lives in peace. It later grew to commemorate all 80.000 men who never made it home.
