Nicolas Delort (Canadian/French, b. 1981)

"End of the Road" / 2013.

Ink on clayboard, scratchboard technique.

Very nice piece. Feels like there's some influence from German Expressionism. It even brings to mind (to me) the "Night on Bald Mountain" sequence in FANTASIA (1941).

Featured on the cover of the Jonathan Oliver edited anthology of weird-horror travel tales, END OF THE ROAD (Solaris, pb, 2013).

Included in the John Fleskes edited SPECTRUM 21: THE BEST IN FANTASTIC CONTEMPORARY ART (Fleskes Publications, hc, 2014).

Delort is both Canadian and French (not a 'French Canadian'). He initially grew up in Ontario before moving to France as a teenager, where he subsequently studied illustration in Lyon. He is based in Paris.
