Always nice to go on a via ferrata trip when you experience fear of heights😎🤘🇳🇴 We managed the "Sørveggen" in Hemsedal (level D). Underpants were still clean at the end, so i can mark this one as successfully accomplished!

Skorve/Gøysen is a very interesting hike in Seljord, Telemark🇳🇴 (1370 meters above sea level). During WWII 2 airplanes (1 American, 1 German) have crashed into this mountain, and the remains of these airplanes can still be found on the crash site. Very interesting stories to read about, and even more interesting to see the remains with your own eyes. Guide recommended on this trip, just give us a call and we will be there for you💪😎

So yesterday the Northern were visible over a very great part of Europe. I have seen photos from Berlin, Kraków, Amsterdam etc. and that's actually quite rare. So how it's possible that the Northern lights were suddenly visible at places like this? It's caused by a so called "solar storm".

The solar storm is shooting lots of particles towards planet earth. These particles, mainly electrons and protons, precipitate into the upper atmosphere (thermosphere/exosphere). The resulting ionization and excitation of atmospheric constituents emit light of varying colour and complexity. The form of the aurora, occurring within bands around both polar regions, is also dependent on the amount of acceleration imparted to the precipitating particles.

Despite of the solar storm yesterday, for me the aurora was actually quite "calm". I have seen wilder things up in the north. The only funny thing yesterday was that here in Southern Norway we normally have to look to the North to see aurora, but yesterday we had to look South.

Here is an explanation what the different colours of aurora mean and on which hights they occur. Usually we see green, but during this solar storms we also often see red and purple, and that is quite unique. Sometimes hard to see with the naked eye, but a good camera will catch it and show you more.😎😁

Norway is a country of big contrasts... Imagine that the first 6 photos were taken just on sunday, 5 days ago. Lots of snow, and -3 degrees... And the last photo is from today when it suddenly was +25°C.😅 Because of the fast weather change it was warmer outside than inside the house... So to warm the house we just opened our doors and windows!😅 But i am quite sure we will see some temperatures below zero again before the summer begins...

Did you know that today (the 6th of February) it's national Sami day?

Congratulations and happy national Sami day to all the Sami people!😁🥳

Lots of our trips we organise are on "Sami land" or "Sápmi" in Sami language. Today we honor the Sami people and celebrate their old culture which still has a strong spirit and is strongly visible here in Northern Norway and the rest of "Sápmi".

Last weekend we got visited by Maaike & Tom from reisgelukjes. We went out for a snowshoe hike, and visited some highlights in the Vestfold region. Maaike wrote a blog about this (sorry for our international followers, it is only available in Dutch. But Google translate can do a lot😉)

It was a nice and sunny day, i loved it to feel the sun on my face again after a long time!🌞😎 and of course it was nice to meet such a positive couple like Maaike & Tom😀

During our "nordic experience" trips we also cheat a bit on Norway sometimes🤭😅 We sneak a bit into 🇫🇮 Finland and 🇸🇪 Sweden as well, just because it's cool to say that you have been there and slept there😅🤪 that's what we do for our guests... Make them a good story to tell about at home😀

The last day out on the water we had amazing colours, but unfortunately not too much wildlife. We saw an otter, eagles, and some other birds. Still better than nothing though😁😎 After our boattrip we went dogsledding in a snowstorm, that was a nice experience!😎

Today i thought the weather was a bit unreliable, so i decided to not go out on the water. Instead we did a 15 km hike to Kågsund kystfort on Skjervøy. That was definitely a nice hike with nice views, and i think we will sleep very well tonight...😅😎

Where we usually find orcas and humpback whales, the fjord is now full of s***mwhales. There were so many of them yesterday, everywhere around we saw waterspray from the blowholes, really amazing! We also found 1 minke whale or fin whale, not 100% sure which specie it was because it was only a short encounter.

It was also the first time that we could go into the water with s***mwhales. It was Wieteke van den Boogert who was brave enough to check them out under the water surface. Unfortunately no underwater footage because the gopro went dead...🥲

And as a dessert we got some nice northern lights again✅️😁

"Just a day at work"😅👍Or actually 2 days... We saw amazing things again, thanks mother nature! This is on our 8 day trip, so we still have 6 days to see even more beautiful things... Day 2 of playing outside in -30°c. Yesterday we went to a lake to do some icefishing. We had a nice time, and it was really nice to feel some sun shining on our faces again, but unfortunately no catch this time... Next time better.😅 We also found a carcass of what in better times was a small deer. It was probably been catched and eaten by a Lynx. There are quite a lot of Lynxes in the area here. It was a beautiful day again!😁

Ok, so it's -30°c outside and you have guests that want to experience the Norwegian winter... So what do you do then? You spend all day outside of course and let them feel this winter, that's what they came for...😈😁

The plan was to take the car and go to a place for a hike, but both cars wouldn't start.😅 So we went for plan B, we put on our snowshoes and climbed a mountain just 10 minutes away from our house made a fire and made a good meal.

Total time outside: 7,5 hours. Not bad with these temperatures.😎 After coming home i started my struggle with the cars again, and it is 1-0 for me.💪 You have to be creative sometimes in these circumstances.🫣
