Annual state's art exhibition is open for another three days.‼️

🍁Høstutstilingen is an artist-juried group exhibition, where jury is chosen for two years by Norwegian Visual Artists (NBK) members.

It is a sales exhibition and takes place at Kunstnernes Hus ("Artists' House") in Oslo- Norway's largest gallery under the direction of artists.

👻 Some say the Castle is haunted.. I mean.. how could it not be? 👻

After all it is the final resting place of 🇧🇻 Kings and Queens since the middle ages 👑.

🏛The royal mausoleum nside of Akershus Castle includes, amongst others, the sarcophagus of the beloved King Haakon VII and Queen Maud,
Queen Eufemia, King Olav V and Crown Princess Märtha.

🏰 Akershus Fortress is a medieval castle built to protect and provide a royal residence for Oslo.

Used both as a 👨‍✈️👩‍✈️military base and a prison- particularly well-known for imprisoning an idealized thief Ole Høiland who managed to escape from there 7 times…🕵‍♂️

After a terrorist attack in Oslo in 2011- Fortress is also an office of the Prime minister of Norway🇧🇻.

Akershus has NEVER successfully been taken by a foreign enemy.

It surrendered without combat to N**i Germany in 1940 though, in the face of the unprovoked German assault on Norway - Operation Weserübung.

🗽 Liberated on 11 May 1945 🎉 and handed over to Terje Rollem (in his trend setting nikkers 🩳) on behalf of the 🇧🇻 resistance movement.

Castle is still a military area, open to the public between 6:00 and 21:00 ALL year round❄️⚡️🌈🌦🌬🌤.

On the grounds: 🇧🇻 Armed Forces Museum
and 🇧🇻Resistance Museum ---->

featuring exhibition related to🇵🇱 Polish soldiers helping and supporting Norway during IIWW. On behalf of my brave 🇵🇱country men- Norway- You`re welcome.

Here comes the sun! ☀️

Norwegians take their love of the sun very seriously- they will use every square inch of sun covered area and treasure it immensely probably while they eat a hot dog.💛

Southern and Eastern Norway have the most ☀️ exposure in the country 🇧🇻- the amount corresponding the central Europe.

Above the ❄️ Arctic Circle you can experience midnight sun- a Polar Day phenomenon when the sun just does not set.

In the northernmost inhabited region of Europe- Svalbard, Norway- there is NO sunset from ca mid April to mid August.😳

Most of Norway also gets the summer "White nights" - nights when the sun remains less than 6 degrees below the horizon.

When you come to Oslo i June- make sure you got some thick dark curtains if you wish to sleep 😴. It is challenging for me but my Dad loves it!

Coming from Gdańsk, I feel that there is quite a lot of sun in Oslo.

Check out the data for yourself:

📍OSLO 🌅

latest sunset of the year: 22:06 PM

earliest sunrise of the year 04:33 AM

latest sunrise of the year 10:21 AM (well… )

earliest sunset of the year: 14:59

Average number of hours of sunshine per day-11:35

🌞🌡A hot summer day in Oslo just like today just over 60 years ago.
Except that today is cold and rainy ... 🌧

It is 7th of July 1958- people are waiting to board a ferry 🛥 that will take them out to the islands in the inner Oslofjord for some relaxing sunbathing and swimming.

👙🏖🏝

✔️ Enjoy summer Oslo fjord island hopping! Collective transport ferry can take you there.

📍Check out Arbeidermuseet - a very authentic, Oslo Labour museum- opened in 2013 in the very heart of old factory area by the Akerselva river.

📌Address: Sagveien 28.

The Museum`s building used to house a much needed 💊⚗️ Pharmacy - Sagene Apothek, in use for 35 years until 1905, placed in between what used to be two huge textile 🏭 factories 🏭 powered by the river waterfalls 🏞.

Later on, building was used as a shelter for unemployed and homeless women and as a rehab café- alcoholism was widespread among the factory workers in the neighbourhood.

Around 1870-1920 price of 🍸 Liquor was comparable to price of milk!

🐕Baltus the Labrador loved the area.

The Museum building itself, it's surroundings and the factories spirit can take you through all those phases of Akerselva industrial history.

🇧🇻Today, July 29th is an official flag day in Norway!

Why, you wonder?

It is St. Olav`s day 😇 aka Olsok or "Olaf's Vigil".
St.Olav is actually a saint patron of Norway and Trondheim's Spectacular Romanesque Gothic Nidaros Cathedral.

🤔Why I am writing about it?

Jo- because there is no history of Oslo without history of Norway, Scandinavia & Nordics.

St.Olav's day is celebrated in 🇧🇻 Norway ,🇫🇴 Faroe Islands ,🇸🇪 Härjedalen in Sweden and 🇫🇮Savonlinna in Finland.

It is a day of remembering 👑 King Olav II Haraldsson of Norway as Rex perpetuus Norvegiae- the Eternal King of Norway. I know!

July 29th is traditionally the date of the death of King Olav at the Battle of Stiklestad, north of Nidaros (Trondheim), in 1030.

King Olav's martyrdom at Stiklestad have led to establishing Christianity in Norway ✝️.

King Olav was canonized in Nidaros on August 3rd, 1031.

The Roman Catholic Church in Norway recognizes Olsok as a major feast all over the country, while the Lutheran Church of Norway recognizes the day in as well as some other churches.

Since 1954, The Saint Olaf's theater play has been performed at Stiklestad each year.

Satisfaction AND learning a lot about Oslo in a super FUN way -GUARANTEED 👌

👱🏻‍♀️About me:

I have been certified as Oslo Guide by Oslo City Mayor Marianne Borgen since 2016.

I am from Gdańsk, living in Oslo for over a decade.

I speak 🇵🇱 Polish, 🇳🇴 Norwegian, 🇬🇧 English a little bit of 🇪🇸 Spanish and understand 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Danish and 🇸🇪 Swedish.

I am very much interested in Norwegian (and Scandinavian) History, Architecture, Art and mostly PEOPLE and why they are as they are.

Ever wondered:

❓️Where is the world's biggest park designed by only ONE artist?

❓️Why do Norwegians eat so many hotdogs?

❓️How the Vikings were really like and did they wear helmets with horns?

❓️Where did Edvard Munch paint his famous "Scream" ?

❓️How big is the Holmenkollen Ski jump?

❓️Why Fridtjof Nansen is my all time favourite Norwegian?

❓️Why Scandinavian alcohol drinking culture is so different than the rest of the world´?

❓️How fast does Jakob Ingebrigtsen run? (Spoiler: VERY)

✅ ️Drop me a note if you wish to find out! I will answer every message.
