𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬

𝐈𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 are very 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 and still can make it 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐭. 😮

A Neqqajaaq cause 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭, but luckily 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐭 𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐣𝐨𝐫𝐝. Even the locals that have seen many dozen summers here, cannot remember such a storm this time of year before.

Of course, also all flights were cancelled during Tuesday and Wednesday… But yesterday 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐲 at the Icecamp. 👍

So, we are 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 coming now! 🙏

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫... 𝐚𝐤𝐚 "𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐝"

A few days ago I asked Sven for a 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐲 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 to promote our Svalbard trip. But so far it 𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲. We've been busy getting the trip underway in 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. 💪

But today it happened: I'm happy that our 𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐟 "𝐌𝐒 𝐈𝐬𝐛𝐣ø𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐧 𝟐" (which means "Polar bear") were 𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐫! Maybe he could work on his social skills but anyway...😅

This week our Greenlandic friend and guide Kunuk was not fishing and hunting in East Greenland but was invited to try fishing at our base in Norway. 🎣 🇳🇴 Well, on the fishing trips we also spotted dolphins and whales... 🐬🐳so, it was close to becoming hunting trips at some point 😂

Happy that Kunuk got a white halibut, the fish that was on top of his bucket list for this stay and which you do not catch every day!

The 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 - 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐦 𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 at the end of February and beginning of March 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐭. ❄️A high-pressure area then provided 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧. 🌞
What was unusual was that 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐦𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 because there was 𝐧𝐨 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰. 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 on the ice 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐝 excellently 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐓𝐕𝐬.

But this 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠. 😅 The 𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐜𝐞 formations was 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞, and our 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 were also 𝐚 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬. 🦈🎉

A big 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬 who 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐝 with us and were 𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 under and above the water. 𝐖𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜! 😍

Last week we did a little 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐀𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐚𝐣𝐢𝐤 𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 next to Kulusuk island to 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐯𝐞. 💙

𝐔𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲, the entrance would be 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰 during this time of year. However, due to the 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫/𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 it was possible to enter the 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝟑𝟎𝟎𝐦 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐫. ❄️

Ny verdensrekord sat i Kulusuk i dag af fridykker Li Karlsen fra Sverige. Under prøvedykket i går lød længden på 30m, i dag var bedre og længere.
Li og hendes team bor alle på Hotel Kulusuk i samarbejde med Northern Explorers A/S
Li's rekord var ikke om at komme dybeste, men længst under isen.

New world record was set today by freediver Li Karlsen from Sweden. During the test dive yesterday she swam 30m, today was longer and better. Li and her team are all staying at Hotel Kulusuk in cooperation with /S.
Li's record wasn't about getting deepest, but the longest swim under the ice.

The time has come - and the Vikings are heading west again... 😅

Sorry for the association; I've probably watched too much Netflix in the last few days (originally intended to acclimatize after Cuba) 😉

But: dear guests, don't worry! I promise, our guides are a lot more professional than they look sometimes. 🥰
And you have to have a little fun, even on a diving expedition in Greenland, don't you agree? 😎

Good news: both of us arrived safely on Iceland. To be honest: I'm a bit disappointed that everything went so smoothly - given my luck with air travel. 🙈
We keep our fingers crossed that this will also be the case tomorrow. 🤞

But if you leave Trondheim (Norway) 4 hours late and suddenly find yourself in Warsaw (Poland) instead of Düsseldorf (Germany) - then at the latest you start to have doubts.
The hope that your luggage will arrive with you on time doesn't even arise. 🙈

But no matter, in the end 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 on time and safely 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐓 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰! 🙃

The Year is coming to an end and here is the 𝐟𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰:

After the expeditions in Central Norway were completed at the end of October, 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐲, where 𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐚𝐬, 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 follow the herring into the fjords. 🤩

We started the tours here on the 1st of November, quite early in the season. But this year 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬. It must have been a long time since we experienced so much feeding. 🖤🤍

𝐀𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠. In other years it seemed as if the marine mammals picked up the leftovers from the fishery almost exclusively at night and were quite lazy in the daytime. 🐋

And of course, there were also 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 to experience here, the 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 just before the polar night, 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞. 😎

Dear friends of the Arctic!

Once again an eventful year is coming to an end. After the previous two years with restrictions caused by the global pandemic, it was great to finally be able to work and plan (mostly) normal again - even if travel disruptions continued to cause some frustration.

But we look back on many great experiences as we are also looking forward to a new season and exciting expeditions! 😎

We want to say THANK YOU to all our friends, guests and business partners who joined our trips or made this year successful in other ways. 🫶

First week of this seasons orca expeditions almost over. Weather changing pretty much from day to day. However, about 100-150 orca on the best day, at least 100 humpbacks (often in big groups of up to 30 individuals) and almost as many fin whales as in the good old Andfjord times ten years ago.
Looking forward for the coming weeks and the peak of the season! 😊

Thank you East Greenland! It was an amazing summer season with fantastic clients and experiences. First "real" season at our Ice Camp. Nightlife in the Arctic. The last weeks were it is getting dark at night. Soon the sun will stay above horizone all day.
