⚠️There are significant traffic challenges at Låtefoss, on the Norwegian Scenic Route Hardanger. The police and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration are warning against long queues and traffic congestion. Dangerous traffic situations arise multiple times a day on the narrow road.
⛔️ It is forbidden and dangerous to park on the roadway. Emergency services, commercial transport, and others depend on the road being clear. Parked cars on the roadway reduce accessibility and create visual obstructions that can lead to dangerous situations.
‼️ Think about traffic safety, whether you're a driver or a pedestrian. Do not walk onto the bridge at Låtefoss to take pictures if it's not safe. Be aware that the sound of the waterfall makes it hard to hear traffic sounds.
The traffic challenges in Hardanger are expected to persist for a few more weeks.

We´ve now installed 10 new bike racks, so you can lock your bike when visiting.🚲 They have also started the work securing the serpentine road. The Trollstigen plateau is a 40 minutes drive from Valldal. Welcome!!😊

Minister of Transport and Communications, Jon-Ivar Nygård, reopened Liasanden rest area along Scenic Route Sognefjellet last week. The quiet, sheltered rest area in the forest was the first rest area to be completed along Norwegian Scenic Routes in 1997, and was rather rundown. New outdoor areas with seating groups, improved facilities for cyclists and a car-free area make up the new environmental profile of the rest area.🚴🌲

Our Story

18 selected routes In Norway, 18 road sections have been selected as Norwegian Scenic Routes. These roads run through landscapes with unique natural scenery, along the coast and fiords and over mountains and plains. Little architectural gems at the edge of the ocean, dramatic viewpoints and functional rest areas provide enjoyable nature experiences for road travellers who want more than just finding the fastest way from A to B.

Through the combination of nature, roads, architecture and art, we create new pictures of Norway in order to tempt you to embark upon new journeys along our most beautiful roads. The architecture along the road is distinctive, in the form of large, monumental platforms and vantage points where you are raised above the landscape to have an even better experience of the contrasts between high and low, large and small. Or it may come in plain, almost modest expressions, such as a concrete bench on a rock overlooking the ocean, or a footpath leading from the car park up towards the nearest mountain peak. Eye-catching or discreet, in harmony with or in contrast to the landscape, but never dull. Architecture that leaves traces of our time.

The roadsides are full of stories. Whoever makes a journey will have a story to tell, or so an old proverb goes. We couldn’t agree more. These 18 selected routes are crammed with stories from north to south, of joy and adversity through the ages, of wealthy people and poor folk, and of the development of a nation. And the best of it is that the stories never end, because we are constantly creating new ones.

The development project is being carried out by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen).
