Lions Camp Imagine Peace page for the Lions Camp Imagine Peace in district 104J. Hostweek week 28
Camp period week The youth camp is held every year in district J in Norway.

The camps theme is «Peace, culture and environment», a theme that was chosen after the horrible event that affected so many people the 22nd of July 2011. The camp can take 30 participants between 18 and 21 years, that is interested in our theme and can speak english. This years camp will be held in week 28, 29 and 30. The first week the youth will stay with a hostfamily and the next two weeks will

be at the camp, which is held at Vestby Folkehøyskole. Camp Imagine Peace has a goal to make the youths reflect over different perspectives of peace, which affect our activities a lot. We visit many different cultural and historical places, like the castle, fortresses as Oscarsborg and Fredriksten and also the worlds biggest sculpture park made by one artist, Vigelandsparken. It is also a goal that the participants experience a positive development personally and a deeper understanding of peace efforts. The Camp Director is YCEC Stefan T. Soos and he can be contacted via email ( [email protected] ) or we will also be happy to answer any question you might have on messages on this page.

Camp Imagine Peace 2015

So great!
– “The food was also great, and the camp building was very beautiful and comfortable. We had everything that we needed, and even a few things didn’t need.”
When I came to the camp, I thought the lack of internet would be the biggest problem, but now I think it was a great idea. The activities were also very fun, they helped us participants to grow closer and closer. I'm very thankful for everything done for me and for everyone. It was great to get to know the culture of Norway”

LYE 2015 Camp „Imagine Peace“
First of all I really enjoyed the three weeks that I spent in Norway. It’s a new experience to be together with people you ́ve never met before, but I really liked it. The stay with the host family as well as the camp was really enjoyable. The location of the camp was well chosen because you had space to be together with the other participants like the gym or the “pool room” but also had your room with just your roommate if you wanted to be on your own for a while. The food was excellent and if you once adjusted to the Norwegian mealtime schedule we could enjoy at least four delicious meals a day.
Besides eating we did a lot of fun activities. Sometimes it seemed strange in the first case as we visited a lot of fortresses and a submarine bunker with a camp that’s called “Imagine Peace” but as we thought a little deeper I think it ́s not so much of a contrast as we first thought. I personally liked the fact that every activity was hosted by a different Lions Club. I enjoyed the activities more when there were a lot of the Clubs members attending than these where just one or two members were present. That’s why I really enjoyed the activities like the canoeing, the boat trip or the visit to Oslo – a lot of members showed up, did fun activities and talked to many of us. But maybe that’s also because sometimes the guided tours we had took very long and got a little boring. So I would rather have more of these activities where you can do something by yourself than just listening to a guide. Generally I liked the concept that we had two days of activities and then a “day off” where you don ́t go out for an activity and have time to get to know to each other.
All in all I had a really great time with my host family and at the camp, met a lot of nice people all around the world who I would like to stay in contact with. I absolutely would recommend the Lions Youth Exchange Program and especially the Camp “Imagine Peace” to people who are open to make new contacts and get to know to other cultures because it ́s an experience that gives you so much so I don ́t want to miss it! And even if our group seemed to be a little different from all the previous groups we had a great time together and I ́m pretty sure everybody enjoyed the camp!
It was my first but definitely not my last time in Norway!
-Wolfgang Horz, Germany.
