Krishna Janmashtami
It is believed that Krishna was born on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Bhadra. On this day, Krishna temples all over Nepal are thronged by devotees. Devotees celebrate the occasion by singing devotional songs called bhajans and kirtans and fasting until midnight. Shops and houses are lined with motifs of Lord Krishna. In the Kathmandu Valley, devotees gather in and around Krishna Temple at Patan Durbar Square, Narayanhiti Krishna Mandir, and other Krishna temples.
The magnificent Krishna Temple with its 21 gilded spires, built in 1637, is an example of the opulence of the Malla era in the Kathmandu Valley. The Krishna Temple, built entirely of stone, is said to be the first specimen of Shikhara-style architecture in Nepal.

is one of the auspicious days in the Hindu calendar. This day is also known as Nag Chaturthi and Nagul Chavithi. On this day, idols/photos of serpent deities, also known as Nagas, are placed outside entrances and worshipped with milk, sweets, flowers, and lights.

Nag Panchami is thought to be the triumph celebration of a strong Ta***ic king who worked with the Nagas to manage the monsoon rains, as Nagas are considered water sources. On this day, devotees flock to Naga shrines ie to offer prayers to Naga deities.

Nepal Darshan
Nepal officially announced a new height for Mount Everest, ending a discrepancy. The new height of the world’s highest peak is 8,848.86 metres.
This is a milestone in mountaineering history which will finally end the debate over the height and now the world will have ONE NUMBER, 8848.86 METRES.

There had been debate over the height of the peak and concern that it might have shrunk after a major earthquake in 2015, which killed 9,000 people, damaged about a million structures in Nepal and triggered an avalanche that killed 19 people at the base camp. There was no doubt that Everest would remain the highest peak because the second highest, Mount K2, is 8,611m. Everest’s height was first determined by a British team around 1856 as 8,842m. But the most accepted height has been 8,848m determined by the Survey of India in 1954.

Happy Tihar.
The 5 days festival of lights, known as Tihar (तिहार) - Deepawali and Yamapanchak or Swanti (Nepal Bhasa), is celebrated in Nepal and across.
According to the Bikram Sambat calendar, the festival begins with Kaag (crow) Tihar on Trayodashi of Kartik Krishna Paksha (the 13th day of the waning moon) and ends with Bhai (brother) Tika on Dwitiya of Kartik Sukla Paksha every year.

The five days of Tihar include celebration and worship of the four divine animals associated with the Hindu God Yama, with the final day reserved for people themselves.

Kaag Tihar: Kaag (crow) puja for the bird of good tidings, the crow.

Kukur Tihar: Kukur( Dog) puja

G*i Tihar: Welcome Laxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and G*i (Cow) puja.

Mha Puja: The Newar community honours the physical body, while others pay homage/puja to Gobhardhan, an avatar of God Krishna.

Nhudaya Bhintuna: Welcome the year 1141 in the Nepal Sambat/Newar Calendar.

Bhai Tika: Sisters and brothers worship each other and the sisters pray to Yama, the God of Death, for their brothers' progress, prosperity and longevity.
