Chitlang was the only one "On foot High" to get to the Southern part of Nepal and India.Inscriptions found locally date back to the Lichhavi era and shine a light of the early history of Nepal. The village is surrounded by beautiful green forests, which consists of more than 160 species of birds and animals. The large apple orchards with more than a thousand apple trees and a new "winery" provide a nice midday break, there are cottages between the orchards, which provide excellent accommodation for overnight visitors.

Situated in the south of Nepal within the confines of the Terai which borders India the district takes its name from the Chitwan Valley, one of Nepal's Inner Terai valleys between the Mahabharat and Siwalik ranges, both considered foothills of the Himalaya.
Chitwan is one of the few remaining undisturbed vestiges of the Terai region, which formerly extended over the foothills of Nepal. It was originally a dense forest uninhabited land with wild animals, snakes, poisonous insects, leopards and Bengal tigers and was ruled by Chitrsen Baba where many rishis meditated in the forest. Over the centuries the middle hill people migrated south and communities were established and great swathes of jungle were cleared to develop grazing areas for livestock.
Today the Chitwan Park is a well-managed wild life reserve operating 2/3/4day tours and educational visits.
