भक्तपुरको जात्राहरु मध्ये सबैभन्दा प्रसिद्धको जात्रा नै बिस्का जात्रा हो । बिस्का जात्रालाई विश्व जात्रा पनि भन्ने गरिन्छ । यस्का प्रमाण स्वरुप यस जात्रामा उभ्याउने यसिंद्य:मा प्रयोग गरिने "हलिंपत" हो । "हलिं" शब्दको अर्थ नेपाल भाषामा बिश्व हो भने "पत" शब्दको अर्थ मन्दिरको शिर देखि मन्दिरको पहिलो छाना सम्म झुन्ड्याइने बस्तु हो । यस जात्रामा पनि हलिंपतलाई यसिंद्य:मा राखेर यसिंद्य: उभ्याउनाले यस जात्रालाई विश्व जात्रा पनि भन्न सकिन्छ । यस जात्राका मुख्य देवता भगवान भैरवनाथ र भद्रकाली अजिमा हुन । बि सं १०६२ ताका राजा निर्भयदेवले भगवान भैरवनाथको एक तल्ले मन्दिर स्थापना गरेको थियो । यहि मन्दिरलाई केन्द्र मानेर राजा आनन्ददेवले भक्तपुर नगरको स्थापना गरेको थियो । पछि बि सं १७७६ मा राजा भूपतिन्द्र मल्लले यस मन्दिरलाई तीन तल्लाको बनाएका थिए । यसै भगवान बिश्वनाथको जात्रा भएकै कारण यस जात्रालाई विश्व जात्राबाट बिस्का जात्रा भएको भन्ने गरिन्छ ।
बिस्का जात्राको शुरूवात बारे एक किंवदन्ती रहेको छ । तत्कालीन भक्तपुरका राजाका छोरा थिएनन र छोरीलाई उत्तराधिकारी दिएका थिए । राजकुमार नहुनाले जो ब्यक्तिसंग राजकुमारीको विवाह हुन्छ उ नै यस देशको राजा हुने धोषणा थियो । तर बिडम्बना जो ब्यक्तिले राजकुमारीसंग विवाह गर्थे उसको भोलिको बिहानी मृत्यु हुने रहेछ । यसकारणले गर्दा यहाँ राजा हुने कोहि भेतिएन । समय बित्दै गयो, राजकुमारीसंग विवाह गर्ने पुरुषहरुको मृत्यु हुने क्रम जारी रह्यो । कुनै पनि राजकुमारहरुले विवाह पछिको दिन देख्न पाएका थिएनन । राजा बिना देश नचल्ने भएपछि शहरका सबैलाई राजकुमारीसंग विवाह गर्ने नियम नै बनाइयो ।यसै बिच एक बुढीको घरमा रहेको एक्लो छोराको पालो आयो । बुढीलाई आफ्नो बुढेस्कालको साहारालाई पठाउने इच्छा थिएन । तब अर्कै एक बुढी आईमाईको सल्लाह मानी सबै जानी राजकुमारीसंग विवाह गर्ने इच्छा प्रकट गरे । राजकुमारलाई विवाह भन्दा पनि पहिलेका त्यतिका राजकुमारहरुको मृत्यु कसरी भयो भन्ने जान्ने इच्छा थियो । शुभ साईत जुराइयो र राजकुमारको विवाह धुमधामसंग राजकुमारीसंग भयो । उक्त रात राजकुमारको मनमा धेरै प्रश्नहरु खेलिरहेका कारण निन्द्रा लागेनन तर दिनभरको थकाइका कारण राजकुमारीलाई भने गहिरो निन्द्रा लाग्यो । मध्य रात तिर जब राजकुमारी सुतिरहेको थियो । राजकुमारीको नाकका प्वालबाट दुईवटा सर्पहरु बाहिर निस्कियो । बिस्तारै बिस्तारै ती सर्पहरु ठूलो ठूलो हुन्दै विशाल आकार लिइयो । यो सबै घटना राजकुमारले हेर्दै थियो र मौकामा राजकुमारले आफ्नो तरवालले सर्पको घाँटी छिनाली दियो । भोलि बिहान सबेरै पहिले जस्तै होला भनेर सबै भारद्वारहरु दाहा संस्कारका सामाग्री सहित उपस्थित भए । राजकुमारीको कोठाको ढोका खुल्यो र सबै आस्चर्यचकित भए कि त्यहाँ राजकुमार जिउदै थियो । राजकुमार पुरै रक्ताम्य थिए । राजकुमार जिउदै देखेर सबैमा कुरा जान्ने उत्सुकता जाग्यो । तब राजकुमारले दुईवटा सर्प राजकुमारीको नाकको प्वालबाट निस्केको, बिस्तारै विशाल रुप लिएको र अन्तमा आफुले अन्त्य गरेको खबर सुनाए पछि सम्पुर्ण प्रजामा खुसियाली छायो । यी सर्पहरु कै कारण पुर्व राजकुमारहरुको मृत्यु भएको भनी देखाउन अग्लो रुख उभ्याइ त्यसमा मरेका दुईवटा सर्प झुन्ड्याए सम्पुर्ण जनताहरुलाई देखाए । यसरी मारेको सर्प देखाउने क्रम आजसम्म पनि जारी रहेको छ । नेपाल भाषामा सर्पलाई "बि" भनिन्छ र मर्नुलाई "स्याना" भनिन्छ । बिशाल सर्प मारेको खुसियालीमा मनाउने भएकोले यस जात्रालाई "बि स्याना जात्रा" हुन्दै बिस्का जात्रा भनिएको हो भन्ने पनि गरिन्छ । राजकुमारलाई सल्लाह दिने बुढी आईमाई अरु कोहि नभएर भद्रकाली माता हुन । भद्रकाली माता काशी बिश्वनाथकी पत्नी हुन । नेपाल आएर यहाँ शासन बसालेको हुनाले उहाँलाई पुजाआजा गरि यहि नै स्थापना गरि राखेका थिए । नेपालमा स्थापित भद्रकालीलाई खोज्न सुरुङ मार्गबाट काशी बिश्वनाथ नेपाल आएका थिए । उक्त सुरुङ मार्गको मुख हालको चुपिङ्गघाटबाट लाकोलाछें आउने बाटोमा रहेको भन्ने जनश्रूति पाइन्छ । काशी बिश्वनाथ नेपाल आउँदा साधारण मानिसको रुप धारण गरि आएका थिए । तर साधारण मानिस भन्दा टाउको एउटा ठूलो हुनाले टाढैबाट चिनिन्थ्यो । नेपालका तान्त्रिकहरुले चिनेर भगवान बिश्वनाथलाई यहाँ नै स्थिर गरि राख्नु पर्छ भनेर रोक्ने क्रममा तन्त्र बिद्या फुक्दा शरीर सबै सुरुङबाट गै सकेको थियो र शिर नगएको अवस्थामा हसिँयाले शिर छेडन गरेका थिए । उक्त शिरलाई हामी भैरवनाथ भनी पुजिन्दै आएका छौ । हाल सम्म पनि काशीमा शिर नभएको बिश्वनाथको छुट्टै मन्दिर रहेको छ भने उक्त मंदिरमा सर्वसाधारणलाई जान रोक लगाइएको छ । यसरी शिर छेडन गर्दा निस्केको रगतलाई एक भाडोमा थापेका थिए जसलाई हाल भुजिंकप भन्ने गरिन्छ । जसरी रगतमा भुजिं (झिंगा) भन्किन्छ, त्यसरी आजसम्म पनि यो भुजिंकप बाहिर ल्याउने बेलामा झिंगा भन्किने गर्दछ । तसर्थ बिस्का जात्रामा भैरवको रथ यात्रा संसंगै भद्रकालीको पनि रथ यात्रा गर्ने गरिन्छ ।
कतिपय ब्यक्तिहरुले यो जात्रा भक्तपुरमा मात्र मनाउने जात्राको रुपमा चिन्दछ । भक्तपुरको भनिने बिस्का जात्रा भक्तपुर र मध्यपुर थिमी बाहेक पनि बनेपा, टोखा, खर्पु (श्रीखण्डपुर), लगायत अन्य नेवार बस्ती रहेको स्थानमा पनि मनाउने गर्दछ । त्यसैगरी काठमाण्डौ र पाटन दरवार स्क्वायर भित्र पनि मनाउने गर्दछ । भक्तपुरमा जस्तै जात्रा नमनाएपनि दरवार भित्रै जात्रा गरि आएको छ । चैत शुक्ल अष्टमी (चैते दशै) का दिन देखि मनाइने यो जात्रा चैत शुक्ल पुर्णिमा सम्म मनाइन्छ । हाल आएर यो जात्रालाई बिक्रम सम्बत अनुसार मनाउन थालेको छ । तर ईतिहास हेर्दा यो बिक्रम सम्बतको आधारमा नभै यो पनि नेपाल सम्बत कै आधारमा मनाउने गर्दथ्यो ।
