Travellers Lodge in Machermo
Namgyal Lodge is owned by Mr. Namgyal Wangdi Sherpa & Mrs. Pasang Lhamu Sherpa. Established in the year 1996, it has come a long way serving trekkers every single year since then. It is one of the best known lodges in the region in terms of food quality, hospitality, hygiene & infrastructure. The view of humongous Machermo peak on its top, Kantega Peak down the valley, two small ridges on its sides, cattle grazing fields around it and a beautiful running stream next to it makes it really spectacular. Trekkers enjoy being here. You will find it more home than a lodge and experience the Sherpa hospitality at its best. There is also a safe camping site in our premises.
We are at 4470m above sea level which is half the height of the magnificent Mt. Everest. Acclimatization for a day or two is highly recommended before heading to the Gokyo Valley. And in addition, if you discover any unusual symptoms, you could get it checked here at the “Machermo Porter Shelter & Rescue Post”, a clinic run by IPPG (International Porter Protection Group) with two volunteer doctors from around the world each season. This clinic used to run from one of our rented rooms for almost a decade. Recently, it has moved to a new building just next to us. It provides medical services (very important in such a remote area) to trekkers and porters mainly related with altitude sickness such as HAPE & HACE. In case of a medical emergency, we could also arrange a "Rescue Helicopter" on customers behalf. We do have a backup Satellite phone for emergencies.
Mr. Namgyal Wangdi Sherpa had supervised the construction process of "Machermo Porter Shelter & Rescue Post" Project. His experience and know-how of the construction process in such a remote area had been very handy. This project facilitates the local villagers, other villages nearby and the visiting trekkers & porters every season. The clinic was inaugurated on October 10th 2006.
