Up there, everything is immensely difficult; not least, really believing that each of these tiny, slow steps was taking me closer to the summit of Everest.

With two cyclones in the area in a short space of time, the conditions this year at Everest have been extremely challenging and unpredictable. On May 12th, Seva and Tshering made it to South Col. (8000m) ready for the final summit push. However blizzard conditions prevented them from going further.
Instead of coming home as any other person would have, they went back down to base camp to rest and then climbed all the way back up to South Col. a second time to try again. Once again, despite feeling physically strong, a second incoming cyclone brought gale force winds and snow and they had to turn back within 2hrs from leaving South Col. or risk their lives.
Today, coming down from camp 2 the terrible conditions and poor visibility made putting one foot in front of the other treacherous. At one point Seva stepped on a piece of ice that gave way and his leg fell waste deep into a crevasse โ I thank God that Tshering was there to catch the rope and pull him out. When I finally got hold of Seva he told me it was the most terrifying two days of his life and he is happy to be alive.
Tshering, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are a man of utmost courage and integrity and I feel blessed that our paths crossed. You and Seva have gone to war and come out the other side as family.
Seva, you are by far the bravest and most courageous person I know. I am so incredibly proud to be your wife. I feel your disappointment, but factors completely out of your control prevented you from standing on a patch of rock. By going up to Everest, South Col. (twice!) you summited limits, both physically, mentally and emotionally, most of us can only dream of. You are my hero.
We have so many chapters still to write. โฅ๏ธ

We arrived South Col at early afternoon on 22nd may 2021 and experienced 40 - 45 knots of wind through out the stay. The wind was supposed to go down before the summit climb starting at 9 pm but it continued with the same speed till we reached Balcony 8400m. We had a tough time setting up tents and making arrangements for the summit.
