Eco-Trekking Adventure in Nepal!

In November, we completed the Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake trek with our Swiss friend, prioritizing sustainable trekking to reduce our carbon footprint. Mindful choices, such as avoiding plastic water bottles and other plastic-based food items, were part of our commitment. Amidst enjoying breathtaking views and immersing ourselves in the local culture, we savoured delicious regional cuisine along with tea and coffee. We have seen firsthand the impact we can have on our environment. So diving right into it, green trekking means a lot, all about exploring nature while leaving no trace behind. When we go on a green trek, we check to ensure we pack up all our trash, dispose of it properly, and respect the natural surroundings. Green Trip in Lower Dolpo 💚
Our team have taken action with the project for the future generations. Cleaning the mountains and not leaving carbon footprints. The team of 7 people cleaned the Lower Dolpo trek for 15 days. Collecting 1 kg of trash per person and packing the trash out to Kathmandu for recycling.♻️

Members of the team also packed out 5 kg of rubbish that were was packaging etc. brought to the mountains. The entire team was committed to reducing plastic packaging for our whole trek. Our team shared how to minimize plastic waste in guest houses and spread leave only footprint 👣 messages with other tourists. They also helped us by attaching our environmental posters to each guest house to be aware of not leaving anything behind our footprints.

The team shares an important goal in cleaning up the Lower Dolpo. It is one of the most beautiful places in Nepal for trekking. Now it is getting polluted day by day because visitors are increasing. We have seen all the trash burning and dumped in the rivers. It is the time to wake up all the local communities, guest houses, trekking companies, guides, trekkers, and Nepal tourism. Let’s keep the Lower Dolpo area pristine.

“Hike for The Environment“ a campaign in the books! 14 motivated and brave hikers contributing to nature. They hiked for 6 hours to Champadevi Hills
picking up litter thrown by previous hikers. While we were cleaning the trails we also suggested hikers to carry down their own trash instead of polluting nature. We have also met some positive hikers who have joined our initiative, they appreciated our efforts to keep our environment clean. There was a lot of litter on the trails and we were able to fill up 14 large garbage bags. Later, we handed this to the recycle centre to manage it. We would like to thank all of our hardworking volunteers for their participation and support in this campaign. This would not have been possible without their generous support.

We recently completed our 4th “Hike For Environment” campaign to reduce plastic pollution and make Nepal’s environment healthy once again, with the message of “Leave only footprints” in nature.

14 volunteers joined together to hike and clean up the hiking trails to the Ranikot hills. We were disappointed that other hikers and picnickers had left so much rubbish behind after eating and enjoying their adventure. To see this disrespect of nature left our hearts heavy.

When we stopped for a break for lunch we shared our delicious home made food, which we brought in reusable containers. As we enjoyed our lunch and chatted, we recognized that all of us shared the same desire to make eco-friendly choices in life. We bonded quickly and promised to continue to do similar hikes in the future and involve our friends and family.

We did our best to clean up and collect what rubbish we could. While we were able to fill 12 large rubbish bags, which were given to the local waste management for recycling, unfortunately there was too much rubbish to collect in one session.

Our message to all hikers is simple:
* Please leave only footprints
* Please ensure you carry out any rubbish or food packaging that you bring with you. This is often referred to as “Pack in. Pack out”.
* Respect nature rather than always just take from nature, let’s pay it back by protecting the environment.
