Pokhara has something for everyone: whether lakeside relaxation is top of your agenda, or something more adventurous – Pokhara is acknowledged to be one of the world’s best paragliding spots – you’ll find it here.

120 miles west of Kathmandu, Pokhara is situated in a valley of great variety, with an almost-1000 metre altitude differential. You will find many climbers in Pokhara; and three of the world’s ten highest mountains are within 30 miles of the city: Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna I (8.091m), and Manaslu (8,163m). The peak of Sarangkot (1,590m) is a popular viewpoint, affording a spectacular Himalayan vista in one direction, and beautiful lake-views in the other.

"Humla is a standout amongst the most socially interesting places in all of Nepal, a social embroidered artwork woven from old Khasa kingdoms, precursors of the fabulous Zhangzhung kingdom of the north, with Rajput and Thakuri mixed into the mix."

The far-west districts of Nepal have remained isolated and untouched while the rest of the country has been developing. Poor infrastructure, scarce resources, and marginalized ethnic groups are among many issues that have held the region back in years past. However, since 2008 a massive effort has been underway to develop and promote this region, which is considered by many to be a future adventure tourism “hotspot”. If you are looking for an authentic trekking experience in pristine mountain scenery interlaced with legend and folklore, then look no further this region is for you!

The setting of Annapurna Base Camp at 4130 m is unique and incredibly spectacular, set amidst the majestic peaks of Annapurna I (8091 m), Annapurna South (7219 m), Machapuchhre (6993 m) and Hiunchuli (6441 m).
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek takes 7 to 12 days, depending on your itinerary and length of walking days. The itinerary presented here takes 12 days, starting from Nayapul (a 1 1/2 hour drive from Pokhara) and going north up to Ghorepani and the famous viewpoint at P**n Hill. From Ghorepani you go eastward to Chomrong and then north again entering the Modi Kola Valley which leads up to the Base Camp.

Many people trek the circuit Nayapul-Ghorepani-Ghandruk-Nayapul, which is very rewarding in itself. This trek can easily be done with children as well.

You can return via Jhinu Danda and give your tired muscles a well deserved rest in the delightful hot springs. Upon your return it is worthwhile visiting one of the Gurung villages of Ghandruk or Landruk.

The lodges in the Annapurna Trekking Region are well equipped with extensive menus ranging from the typical Nepali dahl bath (rice with lentils) to pizza and chau mein. Hot showers are readily available as well. If you are planning to trek in the winter months please check with a travel agency to confirm which lodges are open.

The Panch Pokhari (Five Ponds) Path is a new trekking area in Nepal. Panch Pokhari (4,100 m) is located northeast of Kathmandu at the base of the Jugal Himal. The period from March to May is the best time for trek to Panch Pokhari. This place has cultural, religious, and ecological importance. An important festival, the Janai Purnima festival, is held here every year in August, when Brahmin castes come here for the ritual changing of the sacred thread (janai) they wear around their bodies. Thus, the five ponds (Panch Pokhari) are regarded as sacred ponds. Situated as they are at the base of the Jugal Himal, the ecology is pretty diverse and of considerable interest. The trek takes you through Sherpa and Tamang villages, so it’s something of a Nepal cultural trek, as well.

Phewa Lake, Phewa Tal or Fewa Lake is a freshwater lake in Nepal located in the south of the Pokhara Valley that includes Pokhara city; parts of Sarangkot and Kaskikot. The lake is stream-fed but a dam regulates the water reserve. Therefore, the lake is classified as a semi-natural freshwater lake. It is the second largest lake in Nepal the largest in Gandaki Zone followed by Begnas Lake called Barahi Mandir. Phewa lake is located at an altitude of 742 m (2,434 ft) and covers an area of about 4.43 km2 (1.7 sq mi). It has an average depth of about 8.6 m (28 ft) and a maximum depth of 24 m (79 ft). Maximum water capacity of the lake is approximately 43,000,000 cubic meters (35,000 acre⋅ft). The Annapurna range on the north is only about 28 km (linear distance) away from the lake. The lake is also famous for the reflection of mount Machhapuchhre and other mountain peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges on its surface. The Taal Barahi Temple is situated on an island in the lake.

Panchakot is made by symbolically merging the names of five different places (kots): Tatajalkot, Karikot, Majhkot, Raynaraynakot, and Sansaarkot. These places are also related with the ancient kings. The kings established different religious places to worship divine energy and to get power from it.

According to Rishi Prapannacharya, the mulpurush (primordial man) of all communities of Nepal will be established in Panchakot. “We will develop this place into a common religious site by establishing all mulpurush of all communities at the same place, including those of adivasi, janajati and Arya communities, so that this place becomes a temple for all,” he said.

He said they are not planning to develop Panchakot into just a religious site. “All religious sites have their own importance. We want to develop Panchakot into a unique place in its own right. This place hast its own identity,” he added.

Infrastructure worth Rs 140 million has been constructed in Panchakot. The construction was started with the amount that was collected through a Maha Yagya (Vedic ritual) organized in 2014. A 108-feet-tall urn is being installed as the main attraction of Panchakot. Many new religious structures are under construction at the moment.

This trek offers the opportunity to escape Nepal’s tourist trails to venture in to the deep forests and roam the high alpine pastures that flank the Annapurna ranges. The emphasis of the trek is on the forest and wilderness zone of these mountains. Purple Haze Trek:
Purple Haze is widely found in Himalayas of Nepal. Popularized by (but unrelated from) Jimi Hendrix’s classic song, the Purple Haze strain is best known for its euphoric and almost psychedelic stimulation. This elusive classic sports a mild potency while also boasting both Sativa and Indica effects. After consumption, there is an almost immediate impact; similar to Sour Diesel. Consumers often note the sweet, berry-candy aromas that give root to any Purple strain. Secondarily, you will notice the earthy spice undertones and maybe a burst of grape. The aromas and flavors in this strain blend so well, even the smoke tastes sweet! **d *****na

Himalayan musk deer are most active between dusk and dawn, alternately resting and feeding throughout this period. At night, musk deer can be seen in the open areas of their habitat as they graze, while during the day, they remain in dense cover. Neighbouring individuals may utilize common latrines, an activity with becomes more frequent during the mating season. Himalayan musk deer are sedentary, remaining wthin a defined home range throughout the year. In females these are about 125 acres in size, while male musk deer will control a territory which encompasses the ranges of several females, defending it against intrusion by rival males. The Himalayan musk deer does not undertake any seasonal migrations, remaining in the same area year-round despite harsh weather conditions. A shy animal, the musk deer depends on its sense of hearing to locate sources of danger. When frightened, they make broad leaps, each measuring up to 6 meters / 19 feet in length. Drastic changes in direction are made during flight, and every few jumps the animal will stop and listen. Communication between individuals is thought to be based primarily on their sense of smell, due to the high development of the glands of musk deer. Primarily silent, musk deer will emit a loud double hiss if alarmed, and may scream plaintively if wounded. Population densities are about 3-4 animals per square kilometer.

One of the famous names of Himalayan rivers, the Kali Gandaki rises in Mustang, an enclave of Nepal poking into Tibet on the other side of the Himalaya. Here, it is a flat and braided river, flowing in an arid open valley: the explorer Michale Peissel ran this stretch of the river in a small hovercraft in 1973 and at lease two other group have rafted and kayaked this section.

At kalopani, the river drops off the roof of the world and cuts one of the deepest gorges in the world between dhaulagir, height 8168 m to the west and Annapurna 8091 m to the East. This gorge is one of the ancient trading routes through to Tibet and is now a favourite route for treks. Below tatopani, the gradient eases and the river is ruunable from upstream of Beni.

After the confluence with the Modi Khola, the river swings south through and area where until recently, tourists were almost unknown. There are few villages actually on the river – most are located on the river terraces some hundred of meters above. The Kai Gandaki is named after the goddess Kali and is considered a particularly holy river; an auspicious place to be cremated and every river what’s under all those piles of rocks, we recommend against exploring. It is also a gold bearing river-you will probably meet several small group of gold workers who sluice and pan the gravel of the river bed for minuscule amounts of the metal. This is rewarding river for the bird watcher and we’ve seen mongoose, monkeys, and sign of leopard and otters.

Yarsagumba:
Found in Himalaya region of Nepal known variously as yarsagumba, yarchagumba, yartsa gunba, yatsa gunbu and, more colloquially, "Himalayan Vi**ra," the parasitic caterpillar fungus Cordyceps (Ophiocordyceps sinensis) grows on and kills Tibetan ghost moths during their larval phase underground. A tiny mushroom sprouts from the head of the dead larva, poking a few millimeters out of the ground. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) claims the fungus—which is boiled and added to tea or soup—can act as an aphrodisiac, cure cancer and fight fatigue. These medical claims have not been borne out scientifically.

Although the fungus has been used in TCM for centuries, demand took off after 1993 when three female Chinese runners broke world records and their coach told the media he had fed the athletes yarsagumba in a soup of turtle blood.

Island Peak climbing with Everest Base Camp Trek is a fantastic experience in the Himalayas of Nepal. It is designed for energetic and physically fit trekkers with little or no experience in mountain expedition. Island Peak (6,189m/20,305ft) is one of the main climbing peaks in the Everest Region of Nepal with an impressive and highly glaciated West Face that rises from the Lhotse Glacier. Being one of the 'trekking peaks' with very little technical aspects, Island Peak is not a difficult undertaking for a beginner climber wishing to enter the incredible world of mountain climbing. Hundreds of climbers flock to Nepal every year to get a permit for Island Peak climbing. Our adventure also takes us into the heartland of the Khumbu Valley and Sherpa culture. Before scaling the peak, we also visit, possibly the most popular trekking destination in the world - Everest Base Camp (5,357m/17,575ft) and Kala Patthar - for the up-close views of Mt. Everest and other high mountains.

19/10/2019

Nar Phu Valley Trek:
The trek through the Nar & Phu valleys combines high peaks and passes, glaciers, remote villages, narrow canyons, lovely forests, amazing rock formations, yaks, gompas and unique ethnically Tibetan cultures. Closed to trekkers until late 2002, very few outsiders have explored these virtually untouched villages or climbed the many 7000 meter peaks surrounding them.

Starting at Besisahar — the traditional starting point of the Annapurna Circuit — the trek quickly diverges from routes with more foot-traffic and into the remote Nar & Phu valleys. Passing colorful Tibetan chortens and prayer stones into deep canyons and gorges, you will get the chance to hang out with villagers in Phu while they go about their daily activities, as well as spend a night in the Nar Phedi monastery. These are ideal ways to learn about life deep in the mountains of Nepal. There is also the option to hike up to Himlung Himal Base Camp if you’re feeling up to it.

The last couple of days of the trek take you over the high Kang La Pass, and then down again to Ngawal, a popular stop on the main Annapurna Circuit route, thus giving you a chance to enjoy some ‘home comforts’ again. The surroundings become greener and more fertile on the last stretch, before returning by vehicle to Besisahar.

20/09/2019

The word Kumari originates from the Sanskrit word Kaumarya. It means virgin referring to the culture of worshiping the virgins.

Kumari is also the childhood name of Lord Durga, one of the main Gods of the Hindu religion.

Nepalese believe Kumari as the manifestation of Lord Durga (Taleju Bhawani) in the body of a pure prepubescent girl. She is worth worshiping until she suffers some kind of injury or illness or until her first periods.

History records that the tradition of worshiping a virgin girl started during the regime of the last Malla king Jaya Prakash Malla.

He had a dream where Goddess Taleju ordered him to select and worship a virgin girl from a Shakya or Bajracharya family as the manifestation of herself.

Hence, he ordered his men the task of building Kumari Bahal (home of Kumari in the Basantpur area) and also started the festival of drawing the chariot of goddess Kumari along with the chariots of Lord Ganesh and Bhairav.

Besides, belonging to the Shakya family, the girls selected to be a Kumari must possess specific characteristics. For this, the physical requirements include black eyes, hair, and eyelashes like a cow. Plus, twenty unbroken teeth and body like a banyan tree.

Primarily the girl should be a virgin without any disfigurements. She should have the 32 noble virtues of Hindu culture. And her horoscope should match with that of the present King.

The major selection criteria is the special event on Kalratri or ‘black night’. On that day the selected young girl has to spend the night alone in a courtyard with the severed heads of animals. And, if she shows courage and fearfulness during such frightening times, then she becomes eligible to be the next Kumari of Nepal. After Kalratri different processions take place to cleanse her past sins.

Once she passes all criteria, she starts residing in the Kumari Bahal, Basantapur. Clad in elegant clothes and special make-over of a Kumari Goddess she lives an isolated life. She leaves her family and relatives as she has to let go of everything from her past life.

From this day on, she will be completely treated as a Goddess...(..more..) visit our page 🙏
