Tatopani mahadeothan lies within the Nundhaki village, ward no 5 and 1, district sankhuwa sava, koshi zone, Nepal it is a religious pilgrimage place. In the past sadhus(holyman) from the terai and other parts of the Nepal used t o come here for prayers and pilgrimage. They used to stay for seven days and seven nights once a year during the Balachaturdashi mela. Not only sadhus even common people
of all races come here from far away on this auspicious holy day of balachaturadasi mela. To keep it safe and clean, our ancestor as well as present generation are trying their best and there is nothing much to say about it. However, the proper care and construction of this divine than was first started by our great grandfather named Jaiman Thaklung limbu son of Ardali Thaklung limbu. He was the lead man who summoned all the villagers, for the Devithan's proper construction into what it is today. At present , the tatopani Mhadeothan covers an area of around 6000 sq meters. The village of nundahki is inhabited by many races such as Thaklungs(limbus) on majorities then , Rais, tamangs, sherpas, sunuwars, bahuns Kami and damais. there are al together for places of worship. Namely they are:-
a) Indra Devi or Jal Devi
b) The Chaurasi Dham
c) The Singha Devi Than
d) The Mane Dham
The Indra Devi or Jal devi
This is the place where the main water sources springs out and, it is said that this is on of the largest natural water source of Nepal. On the other hand it is one of the few large river foun in Nepal. here one shoul note tat, no sacrifices are allowed. only flowers, milk scents, rice, tikas and sacrificial things are allowed. Here prayers are performed any time unlike the chaurasi and Manedham. The Chaurisi Dham:
This dham was constructed by Man Bahadur Thaklung in 1988 BS, it was constructed with the belief that by walking around the inside of circles of the Dham, one's sin will be washed away here, heavey prayers are performed during the Balachaturdasi Mela. Singha Devi Than:
Singha devi means " the lioness diety" and lion is always thirsty for blood. This clearly indicates that sacrificing of animals such as goats, buffaloes and birds such as hens, pigeons are allowed on any days. The mane dham:
The mane dham was constructed by Harka Bahadur Thaklung(limbu). This represents a resemblance of a Shiva Linga type temple of Pashupati Nath. It was mainly constructed to request the diety for boon, which was later fulfilled. Here again prayers are performed only during the Balachaturdasi Mela
INFRA-STRUCTURE:
The infra-structure of Nundhaki is not that advanced as that of a town. How ever today, the village is connected with 25' width road direct from Dharan- khadabari- chainpur and pokharai. Electricity has just been lighted at ward no 1,2 and 5 respectively. The Mahadeo then falls within wards no 5 and youare assured of light at night. One can reach this divine place by reserving a land rover from the respective places. Infact , it is only a seven hours travel direct from Dharan and three hours from Khadabari. FUTURE PLAN:
We have the dream of making this divine place a tourist attraction area, through co-operation with the NGO/INGO and respective tourist promotion boards. Therefore, the commitment of the village people is focused on the subject as a whole. We have planned to develop it through a phase wise basis. Phase 1 and 2 falls within the interior development sector. We have decided to develop and maintain it through the donations and help from the village people. We should bear in mind that history should not be eliminated. Therefore, this is being focused to keep history of our ancestors in fact and clean. phase 3 developments falls outside the security walls. In this part of the development we heartly and honourably request donation through NGO/INGO to help us for its construction of parks, roads, hotels, picnic spots, swimming pools as a whole. In the near future, we have plans to connect it with Gufaa Pokhari and beyond as far as we can go.
