Key Changes to Accredited Employer Work Visas starting next year 2025 has been announced!

Summary:

1. Removal of the Median Wage Requirement:

Employers no longer need to meet the median wage threshold, but they must still offer market rate wages for the role and location.

2. New Earning Threshold for Bringing Children:

AEWV migrants will need to earn at least NZ$55,844 annually to bring children.

3. Reducing the Experience Requirement for Migrants:

The experience needed to qualify for the AEWV will be reduced from 3 years to 2 years.

4. Introducing New Pathways for Experienced Seasonal Workers:

In November 2025, two new visa pathways will be introduced for seasonal workers: a 3-year multi-entry visa for experienced workers and a 7-month visa for lesser-skilled workers.

5. Increasing Visa Duration for ANZSCO Level 4 or 5 AEWV Holders to 3 Years:

AEWV holders in skill level 4 or 5 jobs will have their visa duration extended from 2 years to 3 years.

6. Amending the MSD Engagement Requirement:

Employers will only be required to declare that they’ve advertised and interviewed suitable candidates, simplifying the recruitment process.

7. Greater Work Rights for Those on Interim Visas:

From April 2025, applicants for AEWV who hold other work or student visas will be able to work while their AEWV application is processed.

8. Removing the Requirements for Completion of Employment New Zealand Online Modules:

The requirement for accredited employers and workeres to complete online training modules will be removed.

9. Reducing the Domestic Workforce Threshold for Certain Construction Roles:

The requirement for employers to have a domestic workforce of at least 35% for certain construction roles will be lowered to 15%.

10. Interim Visas:

From April 2025, some applicants for AEWV can receive interim visas, allowing them to continue working while their AEWV application is being processed.
