What are YOU doing this long weekend in Auckland? It's Auckland Anniversary Day on 29 Jan 2024 and a great way to spend it is by the water! (Don't accidentally turn up to work!). Pop down with family and friends to join in the excitement of dragon boat racing at Viaduct Marina. With all Auckland teams and a number of visiting teams it makes for nail-biting racing!

Happy New Year everyone. Good news for employers: The Government is pausing the increase of the median wage rate for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) that was due to go up in February 2024.

All current wage rates in place will remain, including:

• NZ$29.66 per hour for migrants employed on most AEWVs
• NZ$26.16 per hour for AEWV holders covered by the Care Workforce Sector Agreement
• Specific wage rates for other sector agreements and roles with exemptions to the median wage.

The median wage will still increase to NZ$31.61 in February 2024 for other visa categories that use it, such as the Skilled Migrant Category and Parent Category. However, this planned increase will not impact applications that are received before the increase.

Silver fern - a tree fern only found in New Zealand-symbolising regrowth, new beginnings, peace and tranquility. 🌿

The silver fern has been accepted as a symbol of New Zealand’s national identity since the 1880s. To Māori, the elegant shape of the fronds stood for strength, stubborn resistance, and enduring power. To Pākehā (New Zealanders of non-Māori descent), the fern symbolised their sense of attachment to their homeland

In addition to English and sign language, Maori is also an official language in New Zealand. 17% of the country’s population is native Maori and, despite certain years of darkness that the language lived through, today they are trying to preserve it. If you are passing through New Zealand and want to learn more about this fascinating culture and its peculiar language, visiting Rotorua is a fantastic option.

The proposed changes will also see a faster route to residence for very highly skilled migrants, such as university lecturers or scientists who hold a PhD, while other professionals such as teachers and registered tradespeople will have a clear route if they work for a period in New Zealand.

A proposed new "simplified" system for skilled migrant visas - with no cap on numbers - will make it fairer and more transparent, the Immigration Minister says.
