It’s so interesting to go back and look at the initial plan we started working from and seeing where we ended up!
We started with one of the plans provided by and asked for a tonne of changes so that it no longer really resembles the initial plan!
We found that starting with a basic plan made the whole process so much easier and we were able to spend hours pouring over the plans, drawing in the changes we wanted etc, which is right up our alley and luckily the builder was happy to accommodate all our requests 😆
So…definitely not an exhaustive list…we:
- flipped the entire house to maximise sun in the living areas
- changed the rooflines so that the highest part of the monopitch was towards the views and sun
- added floor length joinery everywhere we possibly could
- moved the garage to the back of the house and added a 4th bedroom in its place
- moved the laundry into the house from the garage
- increased the living area size and removed one of the doorways in the living room to increase wall space (furniture placement is important to consider if there’s glass on every other wall!)
- added skylights to the kitchen/living/dining
- added storage++
- removed the study book
- moved the separate toilet into the bathroom (probably not for everyone!)
- changed to raked ceilings in the 2 bedrooms with the views
Phew! 🥵
What important changes did you make to your plans along the way?
