Dilana Rugs

Dilana Rugs Making hand-tufted, artisan, limited edition rugs in New Zealand wool since 1981! At Dilana, we believe craftsmanship is where the best of both worlds meet.

Creating something truly remarkable requires both the precision of an artisan and the beauty of art. Dilana Workshop has been designing, producing and placing unique artist rugs into diverse interiors throughout the world for thirty years. We work with established New Zealand and international artists to produce luxurious hand-tufted 100% wool pile rugs, handmade by our craftspeople at the Dilana

Workshop in Christchurch. Dilana’s craftspeople are skilled in balancing creativity with technical practicality, guiding visual artists through the process of creating original, high quality rugs. Our numbered, limited edition works become treasured belongings, sought after as much for their aesthetic value as their tactile luxury. The crafted subtle details of each piece demonstrate the competence, knowledge and experience of both the artist and the workshop, underpinning the aesthetic and monetary value of each rug. Our rugs range from one-off originals, signed by the artist, to editions of five, ten or twenty. Once an edition is sold, it is never reproduced. Please visit our extensive online collection of rugs to experience these unique contemporary textile pieces. Good design is about integrity to the medium. Dilana’s designs are not simply the conversion of paintings, prints or other works into carpets, but a unique approach extending the individual artist’s vision and style into the many possibilities offered by a new medium — a textile designed for the floor.

The Dilana team recently visited our talented rug makers and artisans, witnessing the craftsmanship that goes into every piece. We were especially inspired by the centuries of knowledge being passed down to the next generation regarding natural dyes and traditional ways of dying wool and cotton.
This visit indeed highlighted the exceptional artistry and dedication behind Dilana Rugs. Stay tuned for more updates on our journey!

“Bundespost” exemplifies Driver’s ability
to elevate the everyday. This piece, constructed from discarded materials into a paper collage and later translated into a rug, showcases his years of experience with textile materials. Driver knew how wool yarn would manipulate colours, and the tuft direction in the rug played a crucial role in giving it the depth and movement he sought.
“Bundespost” invites viewers to reconsider the significance of everyday objects.
