A huge SHOUT OUT in support of one of our GVE Clients. We know how very hard so many of our Clients work and today, we just want to acknowledge Theo and his family for their beautiful gift to the front-liners out there, and the work and the promised income that they have had to simply give away, because of the lock down. What a busy Summer it's been! We've been busy with all sorts of different jobs over the last couple of months. We've lined 5 new dairy effluent facilities, serviced pivots, rewired houses, fixed spouting, helped keep the drinking water running clean and clear for the Wairarapa, and a whole lot else!

Pictured below is something we've been meaning to post about for a while now; the RX Airtech Septic Treatment System. These systems are available in several different sizes and are delivered as a complete, fully compliant treatment unit, ready to be piped up to your house and dispersal field.

GVE is able to size and install these units to suit your needs, and we can also size and install the dispersal fields required to meet council requirements. We provide all the drawings and paperwork, and can help you with your consent if required.

The 2017 Winter sports season is nearly at an end and we have had the privilege of supporting additional Teams this season. We have a strong belief here at GVE that Sports participation is important for all who are able to play, and also for the community as a whole. Being a family oriented business we love the way it pulls communities together

Very well done to all those who participated and also to those who supported the Teams involved. Its a big job, and we believe you should ALL be recognised for your input

Thank you for letting us be part of your journey ... its been very exciting to see your progress over the Winter and we look forward to being there with you again next year

Here is Chris, one of our Pump technicians working on a beautiful old Piston pump that was brought into our GVE Workshop

Our Client was quite sure that an old Pump like this was probably beyond repair after running dry, but with a new set of leather gaskets and a clean up, she was good to go....for maybe another 40 years....who knows?!

If you have an old Piston Pump that needs a little TLC then bring it in. With all things considered, they can still be fixed most of the time and once repaired, can sometimes still outlive a new Pump

We can still source the old leathers etc needed for the job!

If you think there's a chance your Pump may be able to be repaired and you'd like to know for sure, its always worth the time to at least investigate the possibility before binning it, and you could end up with a reliable old Pump that has a new attitude; just like the one Chris is working on here

Of course if CPR is not an option for your old Pump, the guys can size the correct one from our showroom to replace it, and for most of our brands you get a 2 year Warranty for a new Pump

As always, phone ahead to say you're bringing in your pump and why, and drop it into our Showroom for attention

We're upgrading our Cruiser! If you know anyone who might be interested in this beast, feel free to share the trademe listing below.

In other news, the team has been extremely busy this week with no sign of letting up. If you need electrical or pumping work done, try and book it in as early as possible so we can organise it for you in good time; special trips and overnight couriers can be costly!

We've also just placed a big order for calf milk pumps and accessories so keep an eye out for upcoming specials!

A stirrer set up like the one pictured below can be the key to a hassle-free effluent system. Unfortunately it's not quite as simple as dropping a prop into the pond and turning it on but a properly sized, good quality, industrial waste water stirrer will save time and money in the long run.
The level of information that's available on the industrial grade stirrers means we can size them based on the volume they're turning over, and accurately set them to only run for as long as they need to. This keeps energy costs down while keeping the stored effluent consistent for pumping, and the nutrients consistent for application.
An effective stirrer will greatly reduce crusting, blockages, wear and tear on pumps, and keep the sludge levels down which means a larger volume of usable storage.

Interesting article here regarding who is and isn't allowed to carry out electrical work. It may sometimes be an easy (and cheap) option to have the local handyman carry out some work when they're already on site but it's risky and illegal.

The best way to make sure your sparky is up to scratch is to search for them on the EWRB (Electrical Workers Registration Board). If they're registered, you're covered!

https://www.ewrb.govt.nz/

Prescribed electrical work (PEW) is very similar to restricted building work (RBW). Just like RBW, no one can carry out PEW unless they are a licensed electrical worker.

Starting just before Christmas, we began installing a relatively new type of irrigation scheme for a client of ours in the South Wairarapa.
The scheme makes use of cutting edge, solar-powered computer control modules that activate and deactivate gun sprinklers around the farm according to the farmers schedule. Each of the 200+ sprinklers have been placed using a combination of precise mapping data from Land Information New Zealand and on site GPS placement to ensure the best possible coverage. Some of the key benefits include:

- Every sprinkler has interchangeable nozzles allowing the application rate to be adjusted depending on conditions.
- Individual, automated sprinkler scheduling means instantaneous water usage remains relatively low.
- Sprinklers are mounted on posts preventing interference from stock.
- No time required to move sprinklers or turn them off and on; the system can be controlled via smartphone or programmed to run itself.

We'll put up more photos as the project progresses (the Wairarapa irrigation market is very competitive...) but this is another great example of the lengths we will go to to ensure the best solution for our clients needs is found.

We also welcome Matthew Milne to the GVE team this year. Matt is an experienced electrician and will be a great asset to the company and our clients.

Here's a U.V treatment and variable speed pumping system GV Electrical has recently installed in a dairy shed. This particular farm is converting to sheep milking and plans to eventually milk around 400 animals. Our pump system is able to respond immediately to demand so there's always pressure wherever it's required on the farm.

We love being given the opportunity to come on board with different projects like this and are happy to provide designed solutions for water, electrical, and effluent requirements!

Here's something a little different...

Believe it or not, this natural looking 200L/min stream is fed by a small submersible pump located in a buried tank. We were responsible for lining the stream and providing the pump - great to be invited back to see the finished product!

It's with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Peter Wilson from Kitchen Things in Masterton. GVE's owners Gordon & Wendy Mouldey dealt with Peter for several years and greatly valued his friendship and expertise.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by everybody.

Business as usual at GV Electrical is really anything but "usual"...

Our staff have been busy all over the Valley these last few months but the biggest job by far has been the upgrade of the Geoffrey Blundell Barrage Gates in the South Wairarapa.

GV Electrical has a long history working with these gates which are used by the Greater Wellington Regional Council to raise and lower the water levels of Lake Onoke and Lake Wairarapa and to control floodwater during major weather events.

Our job this time was to modernise the control system and to improve monitoring and feedback systems for the operators. We've done this without having to completely disable the gates so we've had some great views of them operating which you'll see in the pictures below. You'll also see our specially constructed ladder (patent pending) that we designed to hang from the existing rails; this allows our electricians to safely work on the gates without risking a fall into the water below.

A couple of Friday afternoon pictures from our latest pivot construction. This unit has only just been commissioned and there is already a very noticeable difference in grass growth in the area covered by the pivot.
As you can see, this particular Valley pivot is more than capable of climbing substantial slopes as well which is a trait largely unique to the Valley design and makes them particularly well suited to the Wairarapa.

Unfortunately, as great as pivots are, there are still areas around the corners that are missed. We offer a range of solutions to suit each farm's operational requirements but in this instance we'll be covering the additional areas with a lightweight K-Line set up aligned with the existing rotation used on other parts of the farm.

If you have any questions about whether a pivot may be the smart move for your farm, or if a K-Line set up might be the key to good grass growth, give us a call on 06 379 7953 and we'll be happy to help!

It's been so busy lately that we haven't had time to update our page! Here's a quick run down of some of the things we've been up to:

- New effluent pontoons - we've modified the standard float set up to increase it's stability as we've found its configuration can cause it to become unstable when the unit is operating and tilt; this means that the stirrer's flow is directed downwards which decreases its ability to efficiently stir. When our engineer has finished with them, they sit very well on the ponds and provide a stable, hardy base.

- We've brought in and delivered two new Rodney Industries Irrigator's from Australia to replace our customer's aging Southern Cross workhorses. We were really pleased with the quality of these units; they're very sturdy and have a solid spare parts supply so we're expecting these to be in service for many years to come.

- We've also supplied an OCMIS VR6 Hard Hose Irrigator. This has been brought in directly from the factory in Italy and was specially designed and built to suit our customers requirements. Once put together it was an impressive sight!

In other news, summer is starting to make its presence known and while we're still seeing quite a bit of rain, all the signs are pointing to a very dry, hot summer. Great for the barbecue - not so great for growing grass. Come in and see us about how to keep your fields green so you can relax enjoy the sunshine!

We've recently taken delivery of Grundfos' latest bluetooth pump programming dongle. This allows our technicians to use their smartphones to easily set the pumps up, and to troubleshoot problems in the field which saves a lot of time.

Gordon was on site with staff this week to offer support with the new equipment. The pictures below were taken during the set up of the new pump station for the new residential water scheme we've mentioned in previous posts.

These two 20,000L concrete tanks are being installed as part of a water scheme for a new private subdivision. A total of 16 in-ground tanks are to be connected to the system, along with a complete pumping and metering solution to ensure that everyone gets the correct allocation of water.

While these big projects are impressive and make for interesting Facebook updates, they're only a part of the wide variety of work, big and small, that we attend to on a daily basis. If you think you or someone you know could use our expertise, give us a call and let us know, or stop in for a chat and our staff will be happy to assist you.
