The time will come.
I’ve been Feeling the need to start calling out some things i’m seeing as a Māori artist that a lot of organizations, people etc are still grossly ignorant of…and they’re really important! And Pai noa te kūare…engari, kaua e noho i tō kūare!
Organizations using non-maori artists/ designers to tell & express Maori stories while completely by passing more proficient, capable Ringatoi Māori…People using or sharing your mahi for their kaupapa without asking out of courtesy or tagging or mentioning on their posts,….Artist being asked to contribute to a project or kaupapa and always being EXPECTED to DO IT FOR NOTHING! And at the same time extracting everything from them and paying them with…..(drum roll please)….”Exposure”!🤦🏽♂️Kūare rawa!…the list is looooong…i might need to do some videos to chip away at the list….hei painga mo te HUNGA RINGATOI! For the benefit and welfare of all our precious Ringa Toi Māori….Kāti!
