Manawatu 4WD Club

Manawatu 4WD Club The club was formed in 1973 to promote the enjoyment of 4WDing. It has around 80 members and a diverse range of vehicles. Happy 4WDriving .

We try to run at least one club run a month ranging from reasonably hard to easy or "shiny" trips. The Manawatu 4WD club was formed in 1973 by the late Don Wells to enjoy and promote four wheel driving. The first club president was Colin Greange. Many of the founding members are still active in the club today. The first club outing was a drive along North Range Road, May 1973, with fifteen vehicl

es, 11 Landrovers, 2 Jeeps, a Toyota and one Austin Gipsy. Don's son Dean,is still active in the club. The club was originally named The Manawatu Overland Club but was changed to its current name in 1989 and is also an incorporated Society. It has approximately 100 members, from all walks of life and a very diverse range of vehicles. We endeavour to have at least one club run a month. These trips range from reasonably hard where some damage may occur, ( dents scratches etc) to easy or shiny trips. The majority of runs are in farms, forestry, rivers and DOC tracks in and around the Manawatu. Occasionally the club will do a "camp over" which is great family fun and good four wheel driving. We meet on the third Wednesday of each month and all are welcome to come along. Information packs are available for prospective members outlining the club rules, vehicle and equipment requirements. Prospective members must attend a minimum of two meetings and two club trips and then be voted in by the club committee. We hope to see you at the next event and meeting.

Absolutely fantastic cross country trip today. The club is privileged to work along side the Manawatu Rangitikei rural family support trust, organizing a day off farm for farmers and farm workers. We had 49 trucks all up and finished with a bite to eat. Our day was supported by Claas harvest centre CD, Totally vets and Sallan Realty.

The Manawatu 4wd Club along with the Manawatu/Rangitikei Rural Family Support Trust are hosting a day off farm for farmers and farm workers.
Sunday 24th Sept.
This is a 4wd trip so you will need your own 4wd vehicle with low range transfer box.
BBQ lunch will be provided.
bring your own morning tea.
This event is open to all farmers and farm workers to show our appreciation of the rural community and give you guys a well deserved break off farm.
We will be traveling over paper roads, old tracks and farm land including a stint along the beach. With the wet weather recently some swamp areas are unpredictable but we will have plenty of club trucks to get you out and home safely.
Contact Robert Ervine from the Rural Family support Trust for more info.

We have a non competitive event tomorrow. All prospective members welcome. See below for details.
Thanks to those that came to help set up the courses for tomorrow, we've pegged out a fair amount of courses with all ranges from easy courses to suit those high modified landrovers, toyota prius to difficult courses to suit standard nissans 😉 few activities include couple sets of drags including uphill drag race to blindfolded courses along with few technical challenging courses, we take no responsibility for the therapy councilling required afterwards between drivers and co drivers for who was right and who was wrong in directions 😂😂 reminder that people who haven't been to this place before to meet at BP bulls by 8.30am or if you have been there before to meet at farm by 9am Cheers see you there tomorrow 👍👍

Hi,
Our Manawatu 4WD Club will once again host a fundraising safari in 2024. Our charity safari 2024 will be over the Wellington Anniversary weekend, 19th to 22nd Jan 24. We will once again be taking on the steep spectacular tracks around Ngamatapouri in the upper reaches of the Waitotara valley (the longest no exit road in New Zealand). Camping once again will be on the sports field.
More details will come in due time, but for now keep the weekend free and share with your friends.
regards
Philip

Hi.
A big shout out to the legends that are those who braved the rain to come and help our friends over in the bay.
Tony and Janelle, Jordan and Anna, myself and Megan, Kevin, Rob, Matt, Jason, Pete, and the three prospective new members James, Cameron and Blake. Everyone pulled their weight and then some. Rob took the lead and stripped down a little Honda stationery engine, full of silt, rebuilt and had it running in the afternoon. Jordan took the lead with Pete and did the same thing with an 8lt Volvo marine stationery engine. It had been flooded under 3 meters of water. They had it running in the afternoon. Kevin on tractor with Matt, Blake and James dragged an irrigation pump out of mud, moved it , flushed it out and had it pumped drainage water by lunch time. Phil on tractor and trailer with Janelle, Anna, Megan, Tony, Jason and Cameron dragging their legs and feet through silt in places thigh high lifting debris and slash onto a trailer for dumping, did three loads by lunch time all in steady rain.
Conditions are horrendous for these people and our thoughts are with them as they get back on their feet.
We took significant skills over and achieved more than they thought possible especially getting both engines running. Special thanks to Sharon for sending lunch for everyone over with Rob. The photos don't show half of it nor do they include any smell!. It was too wet to dig silt back from trees unfortunately. Cheers phil

Our Manawatu 4WD Club is leading a trip to Hawkes Bay over the weekend 25 and 26th Feb. After having to postpone our anniversary weekend we felt the need to assist our east coast friends in what ever way we could.
We have been contacted by an orchard owner who needs assistance to dig silt away from fruit trees. This will be hard dirty work and wont be made easier by the forecast for more heavy rain in the area. But it is time critical so we go rain or shine.
If you are a prospective club member and want to help on the day please message me for trip information.
regards
Philip Law
