It seems surreal sitting here today looking out at this stunning calm evening to think that only an hour away is complete devastation.

We were incredibly lucky (considering we live in the windiest place in Taupo) to be mostly unscathed by cyclone Gabrielle - a missing pot plant and a few branches was all. I’m sure our Australian guests staying at the hut were convinced they were going to blow away (As was I) but we made it through safe and unharmed.

My heart hurts for those parts of the country affected and I am absolutely crushed for the parents who lost their precious wee Ivy. May you receive all the love you can get. I cannot even begin to imagine your pain and you will forever be in my thoughts.

On a brighter note I am thankful to welcome our guests for the weekend who are in much need of some rest & relaxation after the Auckland floods. Thanks Mother Nature for giving them that chance!

Last week we got some sad news that our neighbour down the hill passed away suddenly at work. Himself and his wife had been together for 30years and were in the middle of building their dream home just down the road. It really shouldn’t take something like that to put things into perspective but reality is that we get so caught up in day to day life that often we forget that our time here is short and the people around us won’t be here forever. So if you do anything today just stop and take a moment to hug your loved ones and remember that this life is temporary. My heart aches for his wife now having to finish that build and live in the dream house without him 😭
