Amazing school holiday journey on the Bay of Islands vintage scenic railway, 1.5hrs Kawakawa to Te Ake Ake return, over the famous long bridge journeying alongside the beautiful Taumarere River.
Preschool children are free, school age tamariki only $10. Great all weather holiday activity. Trains run daily in the school holidays and every Friday, Ssturday and Sunday, 10am, 12 noon and 2pm departure from Kawakawa Station. Or take your bikes and cycle onto Opua or vice versa. All aboard!

The recently opened promenade at Mangonui is a wonderful asset that is now being enjoyed by many locals and visitors. A great place to stroll from one end of the village to the other and stop off at one of the cafes, bars, restaurants and interesting shops along the way. You can also try and catch a fish from the pontoon at the end of the new jetty. We have seen many successful catches!

You simply must walk our new promenade at Mangonui when you come up to Doubtless Bay. It was officially opened yesterday. You can now park at the south end of the village in a new car park opposite Maori Point and take a leisurely stroll along the shore path and over-water promenade to the central village. Great views, You can often see fish and eagle rays in the water. There are water and boat access points. It's world class and a 'must do' on your next visit to Mangonui! Simply stunning!

If you are coming up to the Far North booking a tour at Butler Point is a must. The Mangonui Garden Club group who visited on Wednesday are still buzzing about how fabulous the visit was and how Liz and Jan's story sharing was a real highlight. Details at www.butlerpoint.co.nz
