What a day on the water. Massive pod of false killer whales and oceanic bottlenose dolphins covering acres of water then followed by 2 pods of lovely common dolphins under blue skies and flat calm seas.

Beautiful last few days on the water with lovely sea conditions and massive dolphin pods all around the bay. Our small group tours have been enjoying great wildlife encounters. Get in quick and book your tour whilst the weather is great.

Great trip yesterday with awesome guests. The sea conditions were not the best to start with but settled down for a nice dolphin encounter and a swim and lunch at Motiti Island.

A longer search than normal today came up with a pod of dolphins in the afternoon, penguins and hammerhead sharks were also closely observed on today's trip. Awesome guests and beautiful weather provided a perfect day.

I was watching a Humpback feeding off a coromandel beach this week as a reminder that the whale migration highway runs in to early summer and our waters are on that route. Baleen whales from the 10m Dwarf Minkies to the largest of them all 30m Blue Whales could pop up on any given day. Additionally the tooth whales including Orca, Pilot whales and False Killer whales make an appearance from time to time. Come and join one of our trips and you may be lucky to see a whale along with seeing and swimming with dolphins that we generally encounter daily.

The amazing sight of false killer whales in the bay, they are usually encountered with their oceanic bottlenose dolphin friends and usually form a super pod with up to 500 animals combined. New Zealand waters are the only place that this happens and the bay is one of their known locations during the summer months.

A pretty cool photo that we got of an oceanic bottlenose dolphin that was part of a super pod of dolphins and false killer whales a rare union of these animals that can only be seen in NZ waters, If you have seen Blue planet 2 then you probably know the story.

Seabirds are encountered on our trips and one of the notable species are Mollymawk's which are part of the Albatross family. NZ waters are one of the best areas in the world to observe these amazing birds.
