As the first rains hit Southern Africa, a plethora of dung beetles erupt!! It is terribly difficult to video the dung beetles rolling balls of dung, close-up, as they are incredibly fast and erractic at the same time!
There are many different species of dung beetle. Many dung beetles, known as 'rollers', roll dung into round balls, which are used as a food source or breeding chambers. Other dung beetles are known as 'tunnellers', bury the dung wherever they find it. A third group, the 'dwellers', neither roll nor burrow: they simply live in dung..

Another amazing sighting. An #africanwildcat 🥰
To the uninitiated, an African wildcat could look for all the world like a slim domestic cat. There are, however, subtle differences between the two. African wildcats are slightly taller than the average domestic cat, and their legs are proportionately longer, which gives them a more upright posture, particularly when sitting. Their walking gait is more like that of a #serval or #cheetah than the average domestic cat.

Hyenas in water
Another #Amazing first time sighting for me. I have never seen this behaviour in Spotted Hyena. We think these hyena had stashed some food in the water. Hyena often store (cache) food scraps and leftovers in water or in bushes and return later to finish up. Storing their scraps under water minimizes the smell, and helps ensure that no one else will come along and eat their leftovers.

What a sighting!!! An incredibly memorable morning #GameDriveExperience!!!
This encounter between #leopard (female), #hyena and #wilddog started out with a leopard killing an impala. She was not able to get the impala up a tree in time before it was stolen by #hyena ... and then #wilddogs arrived and did their best to take the kill off the hyena.
The hyena took the carcass into a small waterhole as a way to try and protect themselves and the carcass. In the end, the hyenas won the 'meal'.
The leopard tried to come down from the tree and slink away, but the hyenas saw her, and so she was quickly back up in the tree.
This was nature at its best - 3 primary predator battling for food.

Beautiful male lion contact calling, before launching into a roar. Sounds like there is an echo ... there was a 2nd male out of shot that chimed in.
#Lions are known for their powerful roars, which can travel several kilometers. A typical roar sequence includes a few soft moans, several loud roars, and a series of grunting huffs.

A few sightings from my recent safari in #Botswana - Deception Valley, Savuti, Chobe - all areas were pumping with wildlife.
Whilst October is fondly called 'suicide' month (due to the heat buildup before the rains start in November) it provides from some spectacular sightings.

Lions drinking at Nantwich Lodge, Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe
What a sighting, right outside the waterhole at Nantwich Lodge, #HwangeNationalPark, #Zimbabwe. Hot days make for thirsty puddy cats! 🦁🥰
What a finale! On our way through #chobenationalpark to the Kazungula Border on the transit road, and look what we found - #africanwilddog.
Also know as painted dogs, these are one of the most endangered species in the whole of Africa. 🥰🥰

One of, if not, the best Bushman (San) experience I have had.
The San were the first inhabitants in Southern Africa and have survived for the past 20,000 years in this arid region.

We have just been in #HwangeNationalPark, #Zimbabwe and the waterholes are pumping with #elephants. It is incredibly, especially after the failed wet season last year, and so everyone is waiting for the first rains, which look promising as the clouds build up. 🙏
