Did you know? Giraffes occasionally sit or lie down, but not for long.

frequently rest while standing, but recent research suggests that they lie down more frequently than previously assumed. They fold their legs under their bodies when lying down, but they maintain their necks lifted high. In this resting stance, giraffe have been seen to continue browsing and ruminating

We love family photos. Elephants are known for their ability to stay within “ ” groups for the duration of their lives, and never stray far from their own mothers.

They have the longest gestation period of all animals at 22 months. After the birth, a calf will stay very close to its mother for the first few years, who will nurse her calf for around 4 years. 🐘🥰

Black rhino have a sort of attack-first-and-ask-questions-later attitude. When they catch the scent of a human or anything else unfamiliar, it is likely to charge. Rhinos can't see well, so they sometimes charge objects like trees and rocks, mistaking them as threats. Rhinos have keen senses of smell and hearing and once they can hear you and have had a good smell, things calm down. 🥰🦏

Over the last couple of months, we have sent guests various communications regarding the increased Kenya National Park and Reserve fees for 2024.

Here we recap all the changes that have happened.

https://www.africansafaris.co.nz/blog/kenyas-2024-park-fee-increase/

Kenya's game reserves and national parks, including the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve, are increasing park entry fees as of 1 January 2024. The

It is 10 years since left us.

Mandela actively protested apartheid for most of his life, and is known for being one of the world's most famous political prisoners.

His anti-apartheid activism never faltered: He delivered speeches, wrote letters while imprisoned and, after his release, negotiated with South African government officials to end apartheid in the 1990s.

Like humans, have seven neck vertebrae, but ball-and-socket connections, similar to human shoulders, allow them to rub their noses on their lower backs. 🦒

The reason for the giraffe’s two-metre neck remains a mystery. It may have evolved to reach high branches, above competitors. Other theories suggest it improved vigilance or that longer necks provided an advantage to males fighting to win a mate.

Spencer is a , so named due to the loud noises they sometimes make that sound like crying, shrieking babies.

Bushbabies are nocturnal, tree-dwelling mammals the size of a squirrel with excellent night vision due to their huge eyes. They have grasping fingers and toes, as well as flat fingernails like humans. Their diet consists of insects, small animals, fruit, tree gums and eggs.

They are incredibly swift and have outstanding jumping abilities that are said to be six times greater than that of a frog. Due to powerful limbs and a long tail utilised for balance, bushbabies are commonly spotted bouncing from tree to tree.

What a fantastic sighting!!!

Pangolins are solitary, primarily nocturnal animals. They are prehistoric and have been around for 80 million years. They are unique mammals covered in hard scales, comprised of keratin. They predate almost exclusively on ants and termites and are predominantly nocturnal and elusive, secretive mammals.

There are 8 species of Pangolin. Four Asian and four African species.

Scientists are not sure how many Pangolins are left in the wild. Because pangolins live such secretive, secluded lives, no population studies have been able to successfully estimate how many pangolins live in the wild. What we do know is that around 200,000 pangolins are trafficked every year. :-(

DID YOU KNOW?

A cat's toe pads provide cushioning for their paws and absorb impact on landing those big leaps, like shock absorbers.

Not only this, but they also enable cats to sweat. With no pores, cats need other ways to regulate their body temperature.

They also have scent glands in between their toes. These glands produce an oily substance to keep their fur healthy and waterproof. Humans have similar glands which make our hair greasy when we haven’t washed it for a while.
