🇧🇼 Botswana and 🇷🇼 Rwanda – today we celebrate two remarkable nations, each marking a day of pride, progress, and perseverance.

In Botswana, it's Sir Seretse Khama Day – honouring the country’s founding president, a visionary leader whose legacy of peace and good governance continues to inspire.

In Rwanda, it’s Independence Day – commemorating the nation’s path to freedom and resilience, a powerful story of transformation and unity.

To our friends, partners, and guests in Botswana and Rwanda – we’re raising a virtual toast to your people, your journeys, and your incredible contributions to Africa's story. 🎉🌍

"Pristine Wilderness and Low Impact Tourism". Botswana has a strong conservation ethos and a low-volume, high-quality tourism model. This means fewer tourists, less crowded parks, and a more exclusive experience. Large areas of the country are protected wilderness, giving wildlife plenty of space to roam naturally. 🥰

In this glorious region of southern Africa, the only crowds are the herds of magnificent wildlife

Today we join millions around the world in celebrating the beauty, diversity, and strength of Africa. On this day in 1963, African nations came together to form the Organisation of African Unity – now known as the African Union – with a shared vision of unity and progress across the continent.

Africa Day is a chance to reflect on everything that makes this continent so special: the warm spirit of its people, the stunning landscapes, the incredible wildlife, and the rich tapestry of cultures and traditions.

We feel incredibly lucky to help Kiwis experience the magic of Africa – from the wild plains of the Serengeti to the peaceful waterways of the Okavango Delta.

Here’s to Africa – may her future be as bright as her sunsets. 🌅💛

On May 1st, South Africa joins many countries around the world in celebrating Workers’ Day — a tribute to the contributions and rights of workers across all sectors.

From a safari perspective, 🐘🦁this includes the dedicated conservation teams protecting wildlife and landscapes, the passionate guides, trackers, and hospitality staff who help make every safari experience extraordinary, the airline and airport staff, 4x4 mechanics who keep the safari vehicles running and all those beavering away in the background. Today, we acknowledge and appreciate the hard work that keeps the heart of South Africa beating strong.

As we reflect on the importance of fair work, opportunity, and dignity for all, we also recognise the vital role of sustainable tourism 🦓🦒 in supporting livelihoods and communities across Africa.

💚 Here’s to the people behind the scenes and on the frontlines who make travel meaningful.

Today is Earth Day — a global reminder of the importance of protecting the wild places that make our world extraordinary.

As a safari company, we’re fortunate to work with conservation-focused camps and lodges across Africa that are actively preserving the natural world – from protecting endangered species to supporting local communities.

Whether it’s helping conserve wildlife corridors in Kenya, reducing plastic waste in Botswana, or funding anti-poaching patrols in Zimbabwe, our partners are making a real impact on the ground.

This Earth Day, we’re celebrating the incredible people and projects safeguarding Africa’s iconic landscapes and wildlife – and we’re proud to support them every step of the way.

Here’s to travelling with purpose.

April and May mark the long rainy season in Kenya and Tanzania. Expect dramatic afternoon downpours, lush green landscapes, and fewer tourists. While some lodges close for the season, others stay open, offering a quieter, more intimate safari experience. The rain can make travel slower and some roads muddy, but it also brings vibrant scenery and excellent birdlife, with migratory species still around.

This time of year is ideal for return travellers who’ve already experienced the classic dry-season safari. They’ll appreciate the different pace, the moodier skies for photography, and the chance to see familiar landscapes in a completely new light. For first-time travellers, however, it’s not the best introduction — wildlife can be harder to spot in thick vegetation, and weather-related disruptions are more likely. But for seasoned safari-goers, April and May offer a rewarding, off-the-beaten-track adventure.

Not just scavengers! 🐾

Hyenas often get a bad rap, but did you know they’re actually skilled hunters and play a crucial role in Africa’s ecosystems? These clever creatures work in clans to bring down prey and help keep the environment clean by tidying up what others leave behind.

They might not be the prettiest, but Africa wouldn’t be the same without them.

Next time you’re on safari, don’t overlook the – they’re an essential part of the circle of life.

During the rainy season, thousands of zebras journey from the Makgadikgadi Pans in search of water, often joined by elephants and other wildlife at this critical lifeline. But here’s the twist: some years, the Boteti flows generously, fed by good rains in the Okavango. Other years, it runs dry, and the drama intensifies as animals trek even farther in search of water. No two seasons are ever quite the same.

For travellers, it’s an unforgettable glimpse into the rhythm of the wild—where the presence (or absence) of water shapes every moment.

Ready to witness nature at its most raw and real? 🦓🐘🌿

Wow, look how green Camp Doros, Namibia is just now!!

Namibia’s been drenched! 🌧️ March saw over three times the average rainfall in Windhoek — a lush, dramatic turn for the desert landscapes.

🐘 Introducing: “Elephant Early Wake-Up Service” for Safari Guests!

We’re excited to offer a brand-new, totally unique experience for guests staying at our safari lodges: The Elephant Wake-Up Call! 🛎️🐘

Tired of alarm clocks? Want to start your day like a true explorer? We’ve trained a small group of friendly elephants to gently wake up guests each morning by tapping on their lodge verandas with their trunks.

“This is a completely natural way to wake up in the bush,” says lodge manager Sarah Ndovu. “The elephants are incredibly gentle, and guests love the up-close experience before their morning game drive!”

Limited spots available – book your elephant wake-up call today!
