The Northern #Namib Desert in Namibia's Kunene Region is very dry, with less than 150mm of rain a year and periods of drought. This is where desert #elephants live.
Desert elephants are one of only two groups of "desert" elephants in the world (the other is in Mali, in North #Africa). They are not a unique species or subspecies of elephant. Instead, they are a "ecotype," which is a population that is different because it has adapted to this harsh climate through learned behaviours instead of genetic changes. 🥰🐘

This pride of #lions has worked out how to hunt #giraffes. Even though they are a pride of 8 or 9 individuals, it does not mean they can jump on the back of the #giraffe easily. Instead, this pride has perfected a way to trip a giraffe, and once down on the ground it can't get up once all lions are on top of it. This kill was close to the bush track, so I suspect it tripped whilst crossing the road. 🦁🦒🐾

Also known as painted wolves or hunting dogs, they are gorgeous, unusual, and intriguing social animals. They are not as well-known as their trunked, horned, or maned neighbours.
There are just about 7,000 #painteddogs left in #Africa. They have a patchy, colourful coat, huge bat-like ears and a bushy tail with a white tip that might be used as a flag to keep the pack in contact when hunting. Their markings are as distinct as a human fingerprint, making identification easy.
Painted dogs are only found in Africa and are not seen anywhere else. They are found in tiny numbers in a few countries, including #Botswana.

Look what we found - a Pel's Fishing #Owl. 🥰
The Pel's Fishing Owl is Africa's second largest owl. It lives in deep woodlands near rivers and eats almost entirely fish. They are shy and rarely seen.
Many visitors to the #OkavangoDelta enjoy fantastic wildlife sightings and superb birding, but one species that many people miss out on is the Pel's Fishing Owl. These rare #birds can only be seen if you have some inside information on where a pair might be nesting, patient, committed, or extremely lucky.

Often, when on a #gamedrive, a flash of green captures your attention as the Little Bee-eater does aerial acrobatics. Watching them #glide smoothly through the air and change direction in the blink of an eye is incredible. The world's tiniest Bee-eater will look for flying #insects from a low perch, usually approximately 1 metre off the ground and on a tree branch. Although most flying insects are edible, the Little Bee-eater likes #bees and #wasps. It swoops down from its perch and catches its food on the wing, a technique known as #hawking. Once back on the perch, it removes the stinger of the bee or wasp from the branch and consumes the prey.
