Sharing something I recently learnt about Laos....
LAOS’ collective approach to healthcare.

In Laos, being surrounded by family and friends in ceremony is considered essential to wellbeing – and requires people to be literally bound.

In the Western world, you would mark a student receiving a diploma, a couple announcing their engagement, a family moving to a new home or a relative falling ill in very different ways. Some of these events might involve your entire family or community, but likely not all of them.

It’s a different story in Laos where each of these moments in a person’s life – particularly when it comes to illness – calls for the presence of as many friends and relatives as possible, who gather at a “soul-calling” ceremony (the Baci ceremony) to express their care and even help one another heal.

Essentially, the Baci ceremony is the Lao way of re-establishing balance within the body, but the ritual can also be used as a preventative measure against illness – or to ensure good fortune, for example, even if someone was going off to university or about to get married.

Do something new, New Zealand
Lets visit Stewart Island

Just a 60 minutes ferry ride from Bluff or a 20 minutes plane ride from Invercargill, Stewart Island's quaint reprieve is highly accessible.

It's a simple place. Slow paced, moving to the rhythms of the lapping ocean and chimes of bird song. But slow by no means equals dull.

On Stewart Island the great outdoors features prominently with guided walks and wildlife encounters top of visitors itinerary. There are no shortage of bush trails lasting from less than an hour to full circumnavigation's of the island taking a leisurely 12 days to complete.

The Rakiura Museum showcases the islands early history, and Ulva Island is one of New Zealand's few predator free islands.

With so many travel plans on hold momentarily, this is a great opportunity to plunge into the deep south.

DO SOMETHING NEW, NEW ZEALAND
Lets visit Taranaki

Named by Lonely Planet as one of the world’s best regions to visit, Taranaki is famed for its picture-perfect mountain and black sand surf beaches that create the region’s relaxed coastal feel.

While the vibe is unashamedly laid back, the region is making a name for itself for its mix of outdoor adventure and urban sophistication: world-class art galleries, unique events and remarkably good coffee.

DO SOMETHING NEW, NEW ZEALAND
Lets visit Hawkes Bay

In Hawke’s Bay, you can sample award-winning food and wine, see outstanding architecture, and enjoy balmy days surrounded by magnificent landscapes.

Alongside a respect for fine wine and fresh local produce, there is an appreciation of architecture in the main city of Napier, after it was rebuilt in the Art Deco style after an earthquake in 1931. An extensive cycle trail network links activities and attractions with food and wine stops.

DO SOMETHING NEW, NEW ZEALAND

Across our incredible country, you can find everything from untamed wilderness to rich culture. Find inspiration in towering mountains and mist-cloaked fjords. Serenity in golden beaches curled around quiet bays. New friends in small towns with big doses of laid-back charm.

Tairāwhiti Gisborne is a region of firsts. One of the first places in the world to see the dawn, and the first to see the stars.

It was also the landing place for Captain James Cook, and the first meeting place between Māori and Europeans.

Alongside high sunshine hours and beautiful beaches, Gisborne offers some of the world’s best surf breaks. It’s also home to New Zealand’s most awarded chardonnays and many great restaurants and cellar doors. The region also hosts natural splendours such as the sacred Mount Hikurangi and mystical Lake Waikaremoana.

"Never before has a country opened its virtual borders and created a lifelike immersive experience that feels like an actual game."

With borders closed for international travel, New Zealand is inviting people to come and virtually play in a never-before-seen tourism experience.

New Zealand has turned the country’s picturesque landscape into a gamified walk-through. Aptly named PLAY NZ, virtual tourists are guided through an open world experience by the familiar Kiwi voice of narrator Julian Dennison.

Got 10 mins? Take a look, you wont regret it.
