Right but also soooooo wrong!

I love the Hokianga but you shouldn't skip the beautiful Bay of Islands... that's like saying go to Cromwell and ignore Queenstown and Wanaka!

Experience both... did you know it's only just over one hour's drive from Paihia to Opononi?

Paihia is the perfect base... only 3 minutes to Waitangi, the birthplace of our nation and the awesome mountain bike park, 20 minutes to Kerikeri and 15 minutes on the ferry to Russell.

Plus beautiful, tropical-island-like beaches to discover on the way to Cape Reinga.

Not forgetting over 100 islands and the world famous Hole in the Rock here

Don't deprive yourself, do it all while you are up here

Looking for something new from your next getaway? Try a trip to the Hokianga

Latest review, thanks so much Vanessa, you were the perfect guests :) Comment below to book your stay today in the beautiful Bay of Islands. She wrote...'We have had such a fantastic 7 weeks staying in Marks lovely place and can not recommend it enough!
It is a very spacious house with a lovely terrace to relax on in the evenings in a beautiful location. It is only a short walk to the beach and shops and there are some lovey hikes around the area to explore too.
Mark has been an absolute pleasure throughout our entire stay, sharing his local knowledge and responding quickly to any questions we had. He has been nothing but friendly and accommodating from the get go!
We can not recommend Mark’s stay enough, you will have a fun and memorable time here for sure! If ever we return we will be back in a heart beat, thank you for being such a great part of our travels around NZ!!'

A fascinating, yet little known story from 118 years ago connecting the goldfields of Queenstown, China, NZ and Northland...

Thought I'd take you on my morning walk in Paihia, imagine starting your day like this when you come up here.

All within 10 minutes walk of where I'm staying... check out the fish and a new game... "Do you know...?"

Today's question... do you know where and when the first recorded organised cricket match was played in NZ?

Check out the videos to find out 👍

Are you sad your planned beach holiday in Fiji, Samoa, Australia, Bali or Hawaii is no more?

Don't be, you can have that holiday right here in NZ, in the winterless North... and the most famous part is the beautiful Bay of Islands.

For a real feel of an overseas beach resort holiday I highly recommend the fabulous Edgewater Palms Apartments, I stay here myself whenever I can.

More positive international coverage of NZ and Jacinda.

Whether you are a fan or not, it's hard to argue with the awesome perception the rest of the world has of her, and the country and the way we are dealing with this.

And that can only be good for us as we and the world gradually come out the other side of this.

Jacinda Ardern’s leadership style, focused on empathy, isn’t just resonating with her people; it’s putting the country on track for success against the coronavirus.

My job for the last 8 years, leading tours groups of international visitors around the country, doesn't even exist and won't for a couple of years at least. But you are right, there isn't anywhere else in the world I'd rather be right now 👍🙂

New Zealand has managed to do something that many countries wish they could achieve: for four straight days, it has reported a decline in new coronavirus cases.

Can you really say you know & have seen the best of our wonderful country? Places people from around the world rave about...

They travelled thousands of kms to get here, and almost without exception, say it is the most incredible country they have ever been. Do you know why they say that?

They say it because NZ is where you have all the most amazing places from all around the world squeezed into one small country...and it’s our own backyard!

Helloooo and Kia Ora!

My name is Mark, born and raised in Christchurch, lived and worked in the UK , Europe and Auckland, for the last 20 years the beautiful Bay of Islands is where I call home.
