Not the news we wanted to hear - the largest cruise ship of the season cancelled for New Plymouth! This is a big blow for the local ecomony. We were anticipating circa 3,000 visitors on Sunday. Constructed just before the breakout of World War I, it’s a testament to resilience, blending beauty with functionality. Climb its 215 steps and you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Hāwera, the surrounding countryside, and even Mount Taranaki!

Recognized as a Category I Historic Place, this iconic tower isn’t just a piece of history—it’s a symbol of Hāwera’s enduring spirit.

While Te Rewa Rewa Bridge is reminiscent of a breaking wave or a whale skeleton, the bridge is actually designed to evoke a sense of wind as a metaphor for the enduring spirit of the dead buried around the Rewa Rewa Pa site.

It is aligned to Mount Taranaki when viewed while leaving the sacred Rewa Rewa side, creating a perfect frame around the sacred mountain – an iconic photo stop.
