From May to early September the visibility is excellent for scuba diving the Poor Knights Islands Marine Reserve while the temperature falls to a winter low of 15°-16° Celsius. Often calm periods of weather occur over this time and visibility in excess of 30 metres can be encountered. The Northland coastline is a top holiday destination, so make sure you book at Tutukaka Cottage Holiday Accommodation when you are exploring all Northland has to offer. Paihia is just over an hour drive away and their Food and Wine Festival is happening in October, so a really easy day trip from the Cottage. If the Festival isn't your thing, there is plenty to do around the town whether it be to take a boat trip to see the dolphins, a hole in the rock cruise, lie on the beach, have a swim, kayak, cycle the Twin Coast Cycle Trail or the Waitangi Mountain Bike, fish,sail, visit the Birthplace of our nation at Waitangi Treaty Grounds, or walk one of the many spectacular tracks.
