A few months ago we replaced the plastic roofing over verandah; these are photos of work in progress. It has let a huge amount of light in and made the spa experience even better.

Book-a-batch have joined the Home Away system, and forced us to use Home Away from now on. We really liked Book-a-batch and we think Home Away lacks some of the functionality Book-a-Batch had, and the fees are much higher, so we decided to try listing on several other sites and see what works best.

If you are an existing guest with bookings in Book-a-batch, then continue to use that system for those bookings.

For future bookings we suggest one of the following:

1. If the booking is before March 2019, you may use Home Away. After that we will probably discontinue using them.
Our listing there is:
https://www.homeaway.co.nz/holiday-accommodation/p20025649

2. We have also listed on TradeMe Holiday Houses This is currently our preferred booking system.:
https://www.holidayhouses.co.nz/properties/71106.asp

3. We are also on Airbnb:
https://www.airbnb.co.nz/rooms/26455256

The pricing may vary a bit depending on which site you access - this is due to some tariffs not being available on some sites.

We have all four calendars synchronized and you will get the same service no matter who you book through. 😊

And the best part is they are FREE!

Rimutaka Cycle Trail - Wellington | NZ Cycle Trail

An interesting site with a great video of the cycle trail :)

From the head of Wellington Harbour, the Rimutaka Cycle Trail circumnavigates the bush-clad Rimutaka Mountain Range, passing through tunnels and skirting the wild southern coast.

Lynda and I had a wonderful day in South Wairarapa last Saturday while staying at the cottage. Here are some photos. The Ngawi boat dozers are a work of art.

I (Pete) at last got to wander through Barr Brown Reserve (a couple of doors down the road from Birdsong Cottage) while waiting for the spa to fill. Here are a few photos.

I was please to capture this Fantail on my cell phone at Cottage last weekend, I never knew the sound of a fantail till we bought Bird Song Cottage. There are so many Fantails there lately, and people are commenting on the Tui's in the guest book. It is very hard to get a photo of a Fantail as they never sit still and pose for the camera! :)

Another relaxing time at our cottage! Stacking firewood.we sold the old spa and the fire wood is in front of it. Poor pete has a sore back so he is cleaning the new spa.
We are sitting on the deck enjoying a cuppa and this big wood pigeon just landed in a tree to eat the berries.
From the comments in the guest book it has been a good season for bird spotting.
December and January have been our busiest months ever.

We still have the first weekend of the Martinborough Fair in February free at Birdsong Cottage.
So why not gather together some girlfriends and book the cottage for the Friday and Saturday Nights then you can be at Martinborough nice and early on Saturday and see most of the stall before the crush of every one getting there around 11am. Then disappear for a while to one of the great wineries for lunch.
The cottage has two queen sized beds in Separate rooms, with three single beds in another room and the couch converts into a double bed.
I am surprised it is still free, but it won't be for long :)

The Martinborough Fairs are held on the first Saturdays of both February and March each year. For 2017 - - 4th of February and 4th of March The 2017 Fair Stall Applications are now Open!Complete online or download and post There are usually a number of stallholders who cannot come for one reason…

Greytown Village

Not quite Featherston, but only 10 minutes up the road.

We're very excited to present 'Your Town', a song made just for Greytown Village, by our very own Barry Saunders. See if you can spot a few of your favourite scenic Greytown locations in the beautiful music video.

Photos from last weekend's visit including some of Featherston. We finally got the curtains shortened and got to try out our new spa (which exceeded expectations).

48 hours in the Wairarapa

Great article, love the cheese shop it mentions, but missed the bakery around the corner and our favourite Everest restaurant we enjoy for Brunch for Dinner.

We are over so I can shorten the new curtains in the lounge. Fortunately we only live 30 minutes away as I forgot my sewing machines!

Just enjoyed a relaxing morning spa listening to the rain and birds.

From pinot to pies to pancetta, there is plenty to savour in this lovely region.

We have now replaced the old spa pool with a brand new one. It was a lot of hard work lifting the old one out and the new one in (thanks to all who helped), but it was worth it. What a beauty! It has ozone treatment so we don't need to use so much chemical treatment, and a cover lifter to make it easier to move.
Unfortunately we have not had time to enjoy it ourselves - this weekend's guests were the first. Lucky them.

29/06/2016

We replaced the curtains in the lounge last Friday. We still need to come back with a sewing machine and shorten them, but they are a huge improvement over the plain white ones we used to have.

19/06/2016

The old expel air was broken so we have been over for the day so pete could install a nice new one. It is an improvement one the old one. Great to be married to a handy man 😊

14/06/2016

I (Pete) spent 3 days at the cottage last week, catching up on maintenance, including installing a range-hood.

I took one day off from the chores and drove down to the coast to take some landscape photos. These are from the Western side of Lake Wairarapa and at Cape Palliser. It just goes to show what a stunning place Wairarapa can be.

26/05/2016

We had another working bee weekend at the cottage a couple of weeks ago. Cleaned all the lampshades, Pete installed blinds in the upstairs bedroom. Started staining the decks. Natalie and I put together an outside table and chairs from the end of season sales, and I cleaned the bathroom roof with diluted bleach in the paint roller tray using the spare fluffy broom that Pete was using to paint the deck, it worked a treat. We have also ordered a new spa that will arrive in about a month, exciting!

26/05/2016

The cottage is now all set for smaller children with safety gates at the top and bottom of the stairs and high chair and portacot. Will try to build a little toy box up too.

06/01/2016

We have popped over for an afternoon working bee. The posts were too far apart on the banister that small children could crawl through and fall to the lower level. All fixed now with extra posts in between. Pete has done a great job.

Spa pool has been drained and refilled.

We are sitting on the deck with a cuppa tea and the bird life is just fantastic. Tui singing his heart out and a wood pidgeon eating the kawakawa berries. Tuis and wood pidgeons swooping past.

It is like plane spotting but with birds!
