Welcome Message from the Cook Islands Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism - Hon. Mark Brown
Welcome to the Cook Islands or as we like to affectionately call it - our little piece of paradise.
The literal translation of the Cook Islands greeting “Kia Orana”, is “may you live long”.
When you arrive on our shores, it is our custom to place an ‘ei or floral necklace around your neck.
This practice symbolises our commitment to making sure you’re taken care of while spending time with us and is an extension of our welcome to you and our delight that you have chosen the Cook Islands as your holiday/vacation destination.
You will find life in the Cook Islands is fairly laid back. The Cook Islands people are renowned for their warmth and you’re guaranteed a friendly smile and a willingness to help wherever we can.
From basking in the sunshine and relaxing on any one of our beautiful beaches, to enjoying a soothing dip in the lagoon, there is plenty to see and do during your stay with us.
The landscape of our islands also promises adventure for those who like to explore. Rarotonga’s challenging mountain treks will provide the reward of views that will simply take your breath away.
But if Te Moana Nui a Kiva or the vast Pacific Ocean is calling, there are fishing charters and some of the best snorkeling opportunities that the islands of the Pacific have to offer.
Most of all we welcome you to share in our culture, one which is built on the foundation of “tiakitanga” or “looking after one another”.

🌟✈️ Celebrating 45 Years of Air Rarotonga! ✈️🌟
In 1973, as Queen Elizabeth II graced Rarotonga for the opening of the islands' first international airport, a tiny Britten-Norman Islander took flight from the UK to the Cook Islands. This marked the birth of the world's smallest airline.
🇨🇰 The 10-seater plane became the flagship of Cook Islands Airways, and the man at the helm was a 22-year-old from New Zealand with a passion for aviation, Ewan Smith.
🤝 As Air Rarotonga faced off with competition from Cook Islands Airways, the battle lasted 13 years. Air Rarotonga's unwavering commitment to excellence led to the acquisition of the Cook Islands Airways brand.
🌄 Today, with new planes, increased passenger numbers, and a dedicated workforce, Air Rarotonga stands tall as a vital part of the Cook Islands. Their strong local focus and investment in safety have been instrumental in their success, maintaining a perfect record of 45 years of service. Read more on page 32 in the latest issue of Escape.
Happy 45th Anniversary, Air Rarotonga! 🥳✨

📜 Celebrating 200 Years of Faith and Tradition on the Cook Islands 🙏
For over two centuries, locals have gathered in picturesque white coral and limestone churches on Sunday mornings. This tradition began in the early 1800s when the Gospel was introduced by Rev. John Williams and his Polynesian teachers, Papeiha and Vahapata.
These celebrations mark a historic moment, join us as we reflect on two centuries of faith, tradition, and cultural preservation, turn to page 72 in the latest Escape Magazine to read more. 🌟
