It was an unforgettable moment last week as Luke Brooke-Smith made his debut for Wellington Phoenix FC in the A-League, marking a significant milestone in his young football career. Just over a year ago, Luke was showcasing his talent on the pitches of the Shepparton Cup, representing Ricki Herbert Football Academy RH3 and clinching the U15 Boys competition title. Fast forward 12 months, and he’s now etched his name into history as the youngest player ever to don a Wellington Phoenix shirt in a competitive A-League match.

What an achievement this is! Luke’s story is a testament to the power of dedication, hard work, and seizing opportunities to play competitive football as a junior. His journey serves as inspiration for countless young players striving to achieve their dreams in the sport.

Luke’s rise adds another feather to the cap of the Shepparton Cup, a tournament renowned for nurturing young talent. While not the result we all wanted, it was great to see Luke Brooke-Smith make his debut of the bench. And to remind everyone,

“16-year-old Luke Brooke-Smith became the youngest Phoenix player in A-League Men history when he made his debut off the bench in the second half.”

An awesome way to finish 2024 with our Elite program players from Cambridge and Auckland enjoying a friendly game day today. Thank you to all the parents and caregivers for bringing their players along. There was some outstanding football on display in some very warm conditions. Well done to all the players and we look forward to seeing everyone again in the New Year ⚽️⚽️

We are excited to partner with Dunedin City Royals FC which will see opportunities extended to their Academy and Youth players.

Ricki Herbert thoroughly enjoyed his time recently meeting and talking to parents and players in Dunedin and observing what Blair and the team are achieving in the Academy space for the Royals.

It's another great partnership for the Ricki Herbert Football Academy and we are looking forward to working with Royals Academy and their coaches and players.

The Royals Academy is pleased to announce a new partnership with New Zealand Football icon Ricki Herbert and the "RH3 Football Academy”. Royals Academy Director Blair Scoullar has a long standing relationship with Ricki with various National Teams which dates back to 1998 and have maintained a friendship to this day. “Given we both are passionate about development, it made sense for us to work together to enable South Island players and Dunedin City Royals players to have a number of ‘real’ pathways within New Zealand and beyond”. “ By working with the best , our Royals Academy will now be linked to one of the most thought out, productive Football Academies in the country. RH3 Academy who, like us, put their players first and want to help them pursue their football journey no matter what level they reach”.

RH3 Academy Director Ricki Herbert said, "We are very excited by the prospect of working closely with Dunedin City Royals FC - one of the lower south’s biggest and most ambitious clubs. I have been very impressed with the Royals Academy infrastructure and the calibre of licensed , experienced coaches and ‘Football’ people driving the direction and pathways for the clubs development”.
