From the trip-of-a-lifetime to the perfect weekend escape, I’ll take care of everything. I work with my clients to craft custom luxury itineraries, managing all the moving parts, so you can focus on enjoying yourself. When I plan your travel, you experience unforgettable moments beyond what you dreamed possible. In a world of flash-sales, bundles and “cheapest deals”, I’m proving time and time aga

in that working with an advisor is the smartest way to travel. Your time is valuable, my knowledge, expertise and connections ensure you have the best possible experience, tailored to your interests, preferences, and budget. My many years working in the airline industry mean I know who to talk to and what to say to get any issue sorted. I know the answers to questions you may never ask. When it comes to experiencing the best in travel, it’s all about who you know. As a Virtuoso affiliated travel advisor, my clients can enjoy exclusive perks and benefits, including hotel upgrades, complimentary breakfasts, spa treatments and more. Virtuoso is partnered with over 1,800 of the world’s best luxury hotels, cruise lines and tour operators – that means you have access to preferential treatment, boutique properties and extraordinary adventure experiences not available to the general public. I’m always looking for ways to add WOW to your holiday. Every client’s wow is different – I take the time to get to know you so I can plan an extraordinary custom itinerary around what matters to YOU (with a few delightful surprises along the way). My Virtuoso connections and experienced airline background give me the tools to create extraordinary travel experiences that run smoothly for my clients. My biggest thrill comes from providing travel that exceeds expectations. I find that’s often achieved in the details – like a stateroom filled with flowers, or “I Love You” written in seaweed on a private beach. More than anything, I want my clients to travel knowing they have someone in their corner making sure everything is perfect. My clients have the comfort and security of knowing that I’m a member of TAANZ, IATA and Virtuoso. Let’s get started! Many of my clients are foodies and love wine so I always ensure they have at least one amazing culinary experience on their trips. And now that I have joined the Virtuoso Culinary Community, I have insider access to some of the worlds most exclusive culinary experiences for you to enjoy.

For example, I have some special clients celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary on May 10th and have booked them a table at Oncore by Clare Smyth in Sydney. I was on their website at 1 minute past midnight Sydney time on February 1st when the May bookings opened, to ensure they got in!

Clare Smyth is a decorated British chef who earned her stripes under Gordan Ramsay. Voted The World’s Best Female Chef in 2018, she has an elegantly innovative take on haute cuisine. Oncore is a light-filled, nature-forward dining room on the 26th floor of the Crown building – with epic Sydney Harbour views to match, and has been recognised as one of the top fifty restaurants in the world in the prestigious La Liste Awards.

Post Covid, reservations are essential to dine in any good restaurant, especially ones with a Michelin star. And it pays to book early to avoid disappointment.

What did you get up for the long weekend? I took a trip up north to Tapeka in the Bay of Islands. We walked the beautiful bush track up to Flagstaff Hill and down to Russell, enjoyed Okiato oysters with a glass of champagne, lunched at Omata Winery and ate a delicious dinner at The Duke of Malborough. It was just fabulous, good friends, wine and food and perfect weather!

One of the highlights of my recent trip to Western Australia was the flight in the Swan River Seaplanes. The aircraft is amphibious, with both wheels and floats. We took off from the runway on Rottnest Island, flew over Perth CBD and landed on the Swan River - the views were magic!

What an amazing trip I had to Western Australia! So much to explore (and taste), I'll have to go again...

Here are some more of the things I did/places I went:
🚶‍♀️ I walked part of the Cape to Cape trek near Margaret River with Cape to Cape Explorer Tours
🍷 Wine tasting, pairing and lunch at Vasse Felix in Margaret River
🍽 Dinner at Kate Lamont's Smiths Beach restaurant

This week I'm in Western Australia experiencing some beautiful places, meeting the local wildlife and visiting some amazing accommodation providers and eateries.

On Sunday we traveled out to Rottnest Island. There was a quokka outside my glamping tent - they are very cute! They are native to Australia and the largest population is found here on Rottnest Island, a half hour ferry ride from Perth.

⭐️Special mention: We dined at Isola Bar e Cibo restaurant - fabulous seafood.

Rottnest Island boasts a casual atmosphere and picturesque scenery. Decades of history combined with a Mediterranean-style climate and indigenous flora and fauna provide the backdrop to a unique holiday experience.

Cycling is one of the best ways to explore - adding to the relaxed pace. The 63 bays and 20 beaches provide many opportunities for a swim and the coral reef and marine life that surround the island provide beautiful snorkelling. Plus there are a variety of guided tour options available daily including coach tours, historical tours, boat tours, Segways and even skydiving.

P.S. The night time photo is of the view from my hotel room in Perth. The rest of the photos are on Rottnest Island.

This month I enjoyed a walk around and lunch on the beautiful Vasco da Gama cruise ship whilst berthed in Auckland. Isn't she gorgeous?!

This is the first time the Vasco da Gama has sailed in New Zealand waters. She called into the Bay of Islands and Tauranga. The visit to NZ is part of the round world 148 day round world journey. The next stop is Aitutaki, then Tahiti and on to Mexico.

The décor on the Vasco da Gama cruise ship is often described as elegant, contemporary, and luxurious. The ship's interior design typically reflects a blend of modern sophistication with touches of art deco and classic maritime elements.

The ship's restaurants and dining areas have been designed to exude elegance and sophistication. From intimate fine dining establishments to casual eateries with panoramic views, each venue may has its unique ambiance and décor tailored to enhance the culinary experience.

🚨𝐍𝐙 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡

Usually, most NZ passports will be processed in up to 10 working days, however, The Department of Internal Affairs has advised that the NZ passport system will undergo a big upgrade between March 7th and 11th. This will mean you won't be able to apply, and passports will not be processed during that time.

If you are in the process of applying for a passport, please also be aware that as a part of this upgrade, any saved but unsubmitted draft passport applications will be deleted on March 7th.

The Autumn 2024 issue of Virtuoso, The Magazine is all about the small, memorable moments that make a trip great.

Visions of Parisians belting out jazz standards in a sweaty nightclub, the wind-whipped mane of an Icelandic horse in the Arctic Circle, and heated seats and baskets of croissants on a first-class Swiss train fill the pages.

Last week I had the pleasure of taking some of my clients for a walk-through aboard Ponant's beautiful Le Lapérouse cruise ship.

They viewed the Blue Eye underwater lounge and the understated elegance to be found everywhere on this magnificent vessel. We finished up with a glass of French champagne and canapes on the aft deck. 🍾🥂

I've recently discovered the beautiful Velaa Private Island in the Maldives, what a beautiful place, put this one on your wanderlist!

With only 47 villas, this island is ideal for guests who seek absolute privacy. 18 of the villas are built over-water so you can enjoy magnificent sunrise or sunset views.

🍽For the foodies, they offer extraordinary culinary experiences with four restaurants that are unrivalled throughout the Maldives and an extensive wine cellar and three bars.

⛳️For the golfers - The golf course is designed by José María Olazábal, renowned for his short game mastery. And Velaa boasts a studio offering one-on-one tuition with PGA professionals. The academy also holds swing analysis software, a putting green and tailor-made tuition programme.

This gorgeous resort also offers a host of watersports, a wellbeing village, plenty of sporting options, a kids club with it's own waterpark, an art gallery and boutiques for a spot of shopping!

I went to Singapore in June for the ILTM travel conference. I always love a stay in Singapore. Between the world-class accommodations, amazing food and easy transportation, it's a fabulous destination for families or solo travellers. 27/12/2023

According to the latest Virtuoso Luxe Travel Report, the top travel trend for Australia & New Zealand is Celebration Travel. This could mean taking local family someplace exciting to celebrate a milestone, or organising a destination meetup of family from around the globe.

Either way, it’s no surprise travellers are sharing life’s most important moments with family – both immediate family and multigenerational or extended family. Whether commemorating a milestone or simply spending quality time together, travel remains an essential part of connecting with loved ones.

No matter the destination, one thing these trips always have in common is many, many moving parts. From the multiple flights, to group accommodations and special requirements, celebration travel in all its complexity, can especially benefit from the support and expertise of a travel advisor.

What are you celebrating in 2024?

(Photos of my trip to Seattle to spend Thanksgiving with my nephews and their families – It was very special, as I met my great nephew for the first time. No matter when you go, there is always something on in Seattle - I went to my first ice hockey game at the Climate Pledge Arena (I loved it!) and I was wowed by the spectacular art pieces at the Dale Chihuly Garden and Glass Centre (not to mention the cocktails in the cafe!)

About Cindy Bakewell - Travel Advisor

I have had decades of experience in the travel industry. I work from home under the umbrella of The Private Travel Company and do everything a traditional travel agent does and more.

A key point of difference between what I do as a broker, and a traditional agent, is that as a broker I am not tied to pushing a limited range of travel options. Because brokers are independent, I can find the perfect product to suit your needs.

I also belong to an exclusive group of Virtuoso Travel Advisors that enables me to access exclusive VIP benefits and extras that are simply unavailable to most agents - it allows me to put the ‘wow’ into my client’s holidays.

Working from home also has its advantages. Rather than being strictly tied to office hours, I am on call 24/7. If you need to reconfirm bookings, your luggage has been lost, or you have missed a connection, I will pick up the phone, even if it’s 2am in New Zealand, and use my extensive travel know-how to sort things out. As I always say - “Without a travel broker, you are on your own.”
