Daily bus from New Plymouth to the Visitor Centre, and Pouakai Crossing transfers from Mangorei Road car park to the Visitor Centre. Option 1:
Mount Taranaki - Pouakai Crossing: Morning Transfer One-Way
Travelling with your own vehicle? Catch our Pouakai morning transfer. Park your car at the Mangorei Road carpark (this is the trail end of the Pouakai Crossing), where Taranaki Mountain Shuttle wi

ll pick you up and drive you to the start of the Pouakai Crossing trail (the Visitor Centre). This way you are walking towards your car and can hike the trail at your own pace, while avoiding the likely parking restrictions at the start of the trail. Option 2:
Mount Taranaki - Pouakai Crossing: Return Shuttle
Need a ride there and back? Catch our return shuttle. Cost - from $45 per person. Our morning shuttle will drop you at the Visitor Centre, (an approximately 30-minute drive). This is the starting point for the Pouakai Crossing. Then we will pick you up from the trail-end
on Mangorei Road at the end of the day. Option 3:
Taranaki Egmont National Park - Visitor Centre Return Shuttle
Transport from New Plymouth city to the Visitor Centre (an approximately 30-minute drive) and a return trip at the end of the day (or after several days, if arranged). The Visitor Centre is the most common start point for the Summit climb, the Around-the-Mountain circuit, and a variety of walking options with lush native forest and stunning views. Inside the Visitor Centre are comprehensive displays that tell Egmont National Park's volcanic, natural and human history, and also a small café, a retail area, and DOC staff to help with track information and weather updates.
