In February, the United States & Canada observe Black History Month. In 2024, the theme is African Americans and the Arts.

It is important as LGBTQI+ people to acknowledge that a large part of the LGBTQI+ movement was pushed forward by BIPOC people, especially BIPOC trans people.

Some important names that should be remembered for their contributions as BIPOC LGBTQI+ people, include Lucy Hicks Anderson, a transgender pioneer for marriage equality, Gladys Bentley, a blues singer and drag king pioneer, Bayard Rustin, a gay civil rights activist, Pauli Murray, a lawyer, scholar and women’s rights activist, Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a transgender rights activist. The list goes on and on, thank you to all those who have paved the way for us and for those who continue to do so. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

During the month of February, Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) celebrates Tāmaki Makaurau’s Pride Festival.

This is a month of celebrating LGBTQI+ people, especially artists and creatives, with a month of q***r events, shows, exhibitions and parades.

This is organised by Auckland Pride and has always been a very important part of my personal q***r journey. If you’re in Tāmaki Makaurau during this time, I highly recommend you attend at least one event, I promise you won’t regret it and it supports local LGBTQI+ artists and the community as a whole! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

I wanted to also highlight that two of our donation partners for 2024 are community partners with Tāmaki Makaurau Pride -Rainbow Youthh andOutLine Aotearoaa which means when you book with Out with David or WānaTravel, you can choose to support the LGBTQI+ community with your travel.

Welcome to 2024! 🎉🥳👏🏻

This year I am solidifying my brand presence and want to be able to really lean into both my roles as a premier travel specialist as well as an LGBTQI+ travel specialist so I have made the decision to split myself in two - say hello to The Out Scores by OWD (will be renamed to Out with David once Meta lets me!) & Wānatravel!

OUT WITH DAVID - will be the unapologetically q***r presence the Aotearoa travel scene has needed for a long time, it will be purely focused on LGBTQI+ travel deals, advice and facts! For all my wonderful LGBQTI+ community members, this is for you and also for those curious about educating themselves on what LGBTQI+ face while travelling!
