It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to close Cable Bay Kayaks. It has been a really hard decision to make but due to personal circumstances it is the right decision for us to make at this moment. We had hoped to pass the baton on to someone to take on this fantastic business, but it just didn’t work out this time.

We have absolutely loved running Cable Bay Kayaks, we have enjoyed meeting such lovely, wonderful people and experiencing the true beauty of this stunning place. We will miss it so much, we have some great memories and loads of photos too!

Thank you for supporting our business over the last few years, we have had the best time! We will still be out on the kayaks, exploring Cable Bay and Pepin Island, we love it too much not to go out there.

Thank you and all the best.

And that’s a wrap for this season for Cable Bay Kayaks! We are now closed, back next summer for more fun on the water! Thanks for our lovely customers who have supported us and come out and explored this stunning place! We’ve had a lot of fun taking you out, and feel very fortunate to have such a beautiful place on our doorstep! Embrace this beautiful country, go explore, have fun, be safe and catch up later this year!

Ahhhh love these shots from last season, they have a painterly quality to them. The water was so calm, so serene!

We are super excited and proud to announce that Cable Bay Kayaks is certified a Climate Positive Business with Ekos.

We have measured and offset 134% of our carbon footprint for the 2021 financial year with certified carbon credits. These offsets grow and protect forests in New Zealand and help to deliver climate resilience, waterways protection, erosion control, biodiversity conservation and community economic development.

The certified carbon credits we are purchasing will be sourced from the Kānuka Hill, Uruwhenua Native Regeneration Project in Golden Bay. Registered under the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme in 2012, the forest sequesters 896 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. The land is also home to the Kill Devil track, a historic and technical track used by mountain bikers and back country trampers on the edge of the Kahurangi National Park.

We are very proud to be part of a growing group of local businesses who are Zero Carbon/Climate Positive. Go Nelson Tasman region!

Here are the faces behind Cable Bay Kayaks, yep, we are a small but mighty team of two, Clive is our qualified kayak guide who will ensure you all have a safe and fun adventure out on the water. And then there is Mel, and I am the one that sits in the office doing all the bits that keep CBK turning over and looking out the window yearning for the ocean and being very envious of all that are out on tour.

We both love getting out on the water at Cable Bay and around Pepin Island, the sheer beauty of the place is that feeling that no-one else is around except the sound of waves hitting the rocks and nature that surround the area. I sometimes wish I could bottle that feeling I get when I am out there, it is so serene.

We also run another tourism business over in the Abel Tasman National Park called Abel Tasman Eco Tours and we are very fortunate to have a very experienced and knowledgeable guide/skipper, Justin, who has worked in the park for 20 years and really makes each tour personalised and memorable. So, I guess really we are very fortunate to live and work is such a stunning region with so many places to get out and explore and experience nature.

We are excited to be opening up for the season tomorrow (1st Oct).

Big shout out to for supplying our rash shirts made from reclaimed oceanwaste.

We currently have a Caves and Coves Eco tour running on the 17th May with availability. We are taking bookings for the new season which starts up on the 1st of October. If you have any questions or queries please do get in touch. So for now we kick off the water shoes and put on the gumboots! Take care and see you soon!

We were so surprised when the Orcas decided to come over to us to check us out on tour today. As SMART Operators we always keep our distance from Marine mammals so were both surprised and in awe of these majestic creatures as they came over to us, and in seconds were off on their way again.
