We are excited to announce that Auckland Sea Kayaks is a finalist in two categories at the 2024 2degrees Auckland Business Awards!

We're especially proud to be recognised in the Community Contribution category. Over the past year, we have developed programs that empower young females and rainbow youth across Aotearoa, promoting inclusivity in the outdoors.

A big thank you to our partners, the NZ Sailing Trust and Experiencing Marine Reserves - EMR , for their support in these initiatives and their commitment to environmental sustainability. This achievement is a shared success!

Sharing some highlights from our recent Motu Manawa Clean-up day with Experiencing Marine Reserves - EMR, Sustainable Coastlines and Friends of Te Auaunga/Oakley Creek.

With 45 passionate participants, we explored Auckland's most traveled-through marine reserve and removed over 80 kg of rubbish—mostly microplastics—making a real difference to this vital urban marine environment.

Our first group paddled towards Pollen Island, where we tackled microplastics on the shell banks and mangroves, while also spotting some incredible shorebirds and unique coastal plants.

Our second group ventured under the motorway and up into Te Auaunga Creek, where we found larger debris like road cones, carpets, and plastic bags. Along the way, we were lucky to spot some kotare/kingfishers and even parore!

A special shoutout to Experiencing Marine Reserves - EMR for making this possible, and also sharing these epic pictures!

Incredible morning on the water with Experiencing Marine Reserves - EMR and an amazing group of dedicated community members!

Together, we helped clean the Motu Manawa Marine Reserve. Being so close to the motorway and Auckland City, this area is heavily impacted by microplastics and other rubbish. Today, we removed over 30kg of debris in our first session alone! Each small item, like a single bottle cap, adds up to a significant problem.

Huge thanks to everyone who joined us in making a difference today!

We're all about family-friendly adventures and believe it's never too early to get your kids into kayaking. Our philosophy is to take frequent, short trips, and paddle to destinations that interest the kids (like playgrounds)🤣. We often take our own kids, Tui (4) and Dusky (20 months) paddling, and our staff love getting their kids on the water too. Check out our handy tips for introducing your kids to kayaking! https://www.aucklandseakayaks.co.nz/kayaking-with-children/

Stoked to be featured in a New Zealand Herald article that highlights the benefits of active commuting! Running or cycling to work isn’t just about getting from A to B – it’s a fantastic way to boost your mental health, carve out some ‘you time,’ save money, and even step up your game at work. 🌟

We love seeing our staff get amongst it and embrace the active lifestyle, whether that's running, biking, kayaking, or other fun pursuits. Any friends out there active commuters? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

During the 2023/24 season we partnered to deliver Experiencing Marine Reserves first ever kayak days along the Waikōwhai coastline, giving locals the opportunity to explore the Manukau Harbour from a different perspective.

These events turned out to be very popular with a combined total of 96 participants coming along from age 8 - 50+ , many trying kayaking for the first time.
On the water participants were able to learn how to paddle in double sea kayaks and work as a team. As well as learn about the local birds, fish and habitats present in the Manukau harbour, and what makes them so important, thanks to commentary from Experiencing Marine Reserves guides.

While not on the water participants were able to engage with the life and issues facing their local waterways thanks to Whitebait Connection coordinator Anastasia.

Check out the link below to read a blog about the events and access photo albums from both kayak days.
