The Terraces Art Gallery is located at 13 Wansbeck Street, South Hill, Oamaru and works as a gallery, studio, hang-out spot and unofficial visitors' centre.

Local Kevin Murdoch restored this building and filled it with historical relics. Here Kevin and long-time friend, Al Bell, both also have their own art on display and their own studio setups.

Kevin focuses on oil paintings and Al does printmaking. The artists take inspiration from the Waitaki landscape, flora and fauna to depict amazing pieces through two different mediums and styles. Alongside Kevin and Al’s art, you’ll also find relics from the region’s past which Kevin has carefully collected and displayed.

Both artists are often in the studio, so if you're feeling curious pop in for a chat and have a look at their amazing work.

On Arun Street, Oamaru you will find Vinbrux Bakery and Kaffehaus, a charming spot to indulge in their wide array of delicious German-style sourdough bread, homemade cakes, beautiful pastries and a menu full of delicious breakfast and lunch dishes.

The Vinbrux family is very much involved in the business and many of the ingredients incorporated in the bakery and café are grown on the family's 34-acre farm. Bread and pastries are made with the wholemeal flour the family mills themselves and all the other products used to handcraft their scrumptious meals are as local as can get.

Choose from rhubarb crumble cake, black forest gateaux, lemon and almond meal cake and apple tart with a cup of delicious coffee if you're up for a sweet treat. If you want to enjoy a nourishing meal, their menu includes German classics like sausage with sauerkraut on a homemade bread roll, scrambled egg crepes, fresh fruit pancakes, potato salad and hearty soups.

After spending a day at Moeraki Boulders, it is a great idea to take a five-minute drive from Highway 1, and head towards the FishWife for a delicious meal.

Owned and operated by John and Nicky, the FishWife is known as the place to go if you want to have the best fish and chips in Aotearoa New Zealand. Freshly caught crayfish and blue cod are the highlights of the menu.

Open from Friday through Sunday, The FishWife offers crispy crayfish pan-fried with garlic, served with lemon and a generous side of chips. We also recommend the battered and golden brown fried blue cod with -you guessed it, a proper scoop of chips.

Presence On Habour has been established since October 2013 in the heart of the Historic Victorian Precinct in Ōamaru. Open from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. daily except for Christmas Day and Good Friday, from May to September.

The store is a former agricultural warehouse, so you have an amazing space for browsing in person, but if this isn't available to you at the moment, just get a feel of some of their great New Zealand made and designed gift ideas here on this site.

Presence on Harbour is not your usual souvenir and gift shop. Late in 2020, they were evaluated by Qualmark and now hold the Silver level of certification under the Sustainable Tourism Business criteria.

Harbour Street Collective & Café is much more than you might anticipate.

At the café, you’ll find three cabinets displaying a wide variety of sweet and savoury treats. Add in a delicious cup of coffee and consider breakfast sorted.

If you’re in for lunch there are plenty of pies, sammies and salads on the menu. The all-day breakfast menu is complete with eggs bennies and there are also healthy options to choose from.

Craftwork Brewery is an award-winning, small scale, Belgian brewery run by a brewing couple, Lee-Ann Scotti and Michael O’Brien located at 59 Tyne St, Oamaru.

Walking through the door feels like stepping back in time, with huge wooden tables, candlesticks, chandeliers and old fashioned artwork on the walls.

It’s been beautifully decorated and creates a cosy atmosphere that encourages lingering over one of the many craft beer options, all washed down with some local cheeses.

You can try pints of beer or smaller glasses which start at just $5. Each taster comes with a little bowl of nuts which always goes down like a treat.

At 5 Harbour Street, you'll find the portal to local artist Donna Demente's creative dimension, the Grainstore Gallery. While many visitors expect to find a tiny attic here, Grainstore Gallery’s whimsical environment will absorb you into its many artworks to explore.

Enormous handmade paper mache sculptures of famous women such as Queen Victoria, detailed masks and paintings share the space with bits of ephemera that inspire and inform her process; antiques, taxidermy, and other artists’ work all add up to a massive collection of found objects.

The Galley is a lovely coffee shop located right on the water's edge of Friendly bay and right beside the Steampunk playground.

And when we say right on the water, we mean it! There really is nothing between you and the waves, and snagging a seat along the long window is a must.

As well as the glorious location, they provide a full menu as well as breakfast menu till 11 am and a cabinet full of freshly baked goodies.
