Winter storms can be tough on your trees. After high winds or heavy rain, check for broken branches - especially on older, more brittle trees. Damaged limbs should be removed quickly, as they’re weaker and more likely to fall later, posing risks to people or property.

This is one of the reasons we recommend tree pruning during winter; it’s an opportunity for you (or your arborist) to spot and remove any cracked or damaged branches before they come down in the next storm.

Life at Treetech with our Contract Manager, Jared Donald.

Jared, sporting one of the best mullets we've seen, joined the team 9 months ago and is already a key asset to our team having fit right in. We're feeling pretty lucky to have him a part of our team.

Having joined Treetech coming from a smaller company of 20, “[Treetech’s] a well oiled machine, you can see and feel the difference in the organisation compared to working for smaller company. It’s phenomenal the things we can get done here, nothing is a challenge and the support network is awesome.”

Jared's role often has him out in the community and he loves the relationships he gets to create on the job. With a background in organic horticulture and having trained as an arborist, he has a real knack in being able to problem solve for our clients.

And when he's not working, you can find Jared, self-proclaimed Eco-Bogan breeding "spiky buggers" (Cactus) and Drag Racing. Juxtaposition in it's finest form 🙌🏼

Life at Treetech with Jordan Sutherland, having started out at Treetech in July of 2022, this lad has an incredibly impressive career to date.

2023: Qualified for the Young Arborist of the Year
2023: Won the Treetech Apprentice of the Year
2024: Won the Treetech Value Ambassador of the Year
2024: Won the Young Arborist of the Year in Auckland and now gets to represent Arboriculture in the – Young Horticulturist of the Year 2025.

We had a chat with Jordan about his time at Treetech so far. What he’s enjoyed most is the people he gets to work with and the opportunities that come from being part of a larger organisation. Key benefits are the variety of work and the chance to learn from others across the team. A standout for Jordan has been the apprenticeship programme, having an in-house tutor meant he could pick up the skills needed for the job much faster. And with everything he’s achieved already, he’s well on track for a bright future - and we’re excited to see where it takes him!
