UnderDog New Zealand Sled Dog Tours UnderDog offers summer and winter trips with traditional Arctic sled dogs both on and off the snow in some of New Zealand premier landscapes.

Fleur and Curt have run dogs since 2000 and trained and raced full time in North America since 2007. Our Kennel of 30 dogs are traditional North American sled dogs, Alaskan Malamutes and Alaskan Huskies. The same dogs used for racing and traditional purposes in the Arctic. Most of our dogs are veterans of the North American race circuit, including traversing 1000miles of Alaska in the "Iditarod".

The first and only NZ team to do so. Come meet these phenomenal athletes and feel the thrill of driving them. If you want to follow our race team you can do it through out Team page:

It’s not only the guests that get disappointed when we have to close due to conditions, the dogs also get bummed out when they don’t get to hit the trail. They love what they do!

Unfortunately warm weather and limited snow has created unsafe conditions, as a result we will not be able to operate today. This is potentially going to impact us until we get the forecasted snow on Monday. It’s been a very slow and unusual start to the season. Very sorry to our guests that have been affected by this. We are in the process of reaching out to you all.

Our Story

We have now merged our racing page with our touring page as we have so many people follow both and many of our guests are actively interested in the racing.

We started off recreationally running Alaskan Malamutes in New Zealand in about 2000 and in 2007 had the opportunity to head to the US.

In 2007 we relocated to Togo, Minnesota and had the opportunity to spend close to four years handling for and training with Jamie Nelson who has been a huge influence to us. During that time we started to develop, train and race our own team of Alaskan Huskies. We raced in Minnesota, Montana, Michigan and North Dakota during that period in events ranging from 60 - 390 miles.

In 2011 we moved the team to Atlin, British Columbia and ran the Cooper Basin 300 and Iditarod. The first and only NZ team to have completed Iditarod. As of July 2012 the team staged out of Willow, Alaska. In 2013 we ran our second Iditarod finishing in 27th place. In Feb 2014 we became the first NZ team to have completed the Yukon Quest finishing in 7th place and two weeks later ran our third Iditarod finishing in 23rd place. After the 2015 Iditarod, our fourth we decided to take two years out of racing to focus on rebuilding our team as the core of it was reaching retirement age with a focus on building a team for the 2018 season.
