Today I’m doing a little chat about my journey with clay , from holding a raw lump of clay aged 3 to doing a ceramics degree and to teaching clay to kids of all ages for over 30 years.
Over the last 15 years that I’ve lived in ChCh I’ve done various clay workshops in the classrooms and have first hand witnessed the theraputic qualities clay offers kids who have gone through a lot of emotional imbalances.
I have a deep desire to share my knowledge to a wider audience throughout NZ.
I am no longer offering these school visits yet I would love to create visual instructional material for teachers to use in their classroom.
Chatting to a teacher friend , he mentioned how valuable it was to have the knowledge of how to maintain the clay malleable for regular use. Rather than putting pressure on kids to produce a final piece, we discovered that just using clay as a way of exploration had greater benefits and when done on a regular basis it allowed the kids to explore their creativity and imagination further.
If you have ideas as to whom I can chat to with regards this idea ,be it sponsors or interested organisations . Any advice is welcomed.
