Regardless of the weather—be it rain or shine—our crews are advancing Stage 2 of the Wilfield Rise subdivision. See some photo updates of work completed recently by the dedicated Ongrade team. Stay tuned as we continue to make significant progress in bringing Wilfield Rise to life.
Earthworks and wastewater are progressing well at Falcons View Subdivision, thanks to the efforts of the Ongrade crews and our subcontrators. Despite the challenges posed by wet ground conditions in winter, progress remains on track. See some of the action shots.
This week, three of our water installation crews successfully connected the new 500mm water main on Townsend Road. The project required an extensive night shift, including shutting off water through the existing pipes, draining the remaining water, and installing the new specialised pipework. This was followed by welding all fittings in place before commissioning the new main. We were fortunate to have the expert assistance of Olsen Welding for the steel pipework.
It was a significant effort by our teams to ensure that water supply to Rangiora remained uninterrupted.
This week two of Ongrades crews got started on a new watermain project running along Blackett Street, Rangiora for Waimakariri District Council. This project includes the installation of 845mtrs of 450mm Watermain including going under the Main North Line rail track, 119mtrs of a new 225mm Sewer main, 94mtrs of new Stormwater pipe varying in size from 375mm to 600mm, and removal and rebuilding of the King St/Blackett St roundabout and refuge islands.
Our crews are working with an archaeologist on this project as it runs along the alignment of the old Rangiora/Oxford rail path. There was a full briefing before we broke ground so our crew is aware of what to keep a close eye out for.
This is an exciting project that Ongrade is proud to be completing!
Ongrade would like to introduce its newest member to the fleet. Our brand new 460UD combined with the VX200/1600 6 inch hydro excavation unit. Keep a close eye on the roads as you see our highly qualified drainage operator Denny Heyward on his new truck.
Works are progressing well on the Townsend Road Watermain Undergrounding project for WDC. This week Ongrade partnered with specialist pipe rammers Utilities Infrastructure NZ LTD to begin installing the steel casing that will hold the new watermain under the Southbrook Stream.
The steel casing is now installed and cleaning out has commenced in the 4.4m deep excavation!
The Ongrade crew plan to install the new pipework in the casing next week.

Ongrade were excited to get started on another stage of the Falcon's View Subdivision in Rolleston this week. The crew jumped straight into some deep trenching for new services to be installed. The earthworks crew can't wait to get the big gear in next week to start on site clearance, lot & road development.
This week Ongrade were proud to present one of our up and coming staff members, Charlie, with his Level 3 NZ Certificate in Infrastructure Works. Charlie has already started on his Level 4 books and we can't wait to see where his career takes him in the future.
A very wet and cold🥶 week for the Ongrade crews, but they persevered in the rain 🌧️ 💪.
One Ongrade crew has started a new Watermain project at Townsend Road, Rangiora for Waimakariri District Council.

One of our crews have been carrying out Stormwater improvements in Waikuku Beach. The end of this project is in sight before they move on to the next big thing.

Experienced Pozi Track Operator
Ongrade is growing and we are looking to add an Experienced Pozi Track Operator to our team.
We are a North Canterbury company based in Kaiapoi, who specialise in civil construction.
We are looking for an experienced operator with at least 5 years' experience. You must have experience in the civil industry and the ability to operate the pozi track efficiently and effectively. Operators must hold their R, T, W licence.
This is a diverse role, operating a brand new John Deere 331G with Sharpgrade 2.95mtr blade, 4 in 1 multi-purpose bucket and fitted out with a Topcon GPS and Total Station machine control. We are looking for someone physically fit with a can-do attitude to get involved and assist with finishing roading, carparks and other areas such as berms or sports fields.
What we need you to bring to us:
• 5yrs experience in the civil industry.
• Knowledge and understanding of compaction standards for different aggregates.
• Knowledge and understanding of road formation.
• The ability to prep kerb lines from the control screen.
• Operate to fine tolerances, less than 5mm.
• Have understanding of the machine control and sharp grade blade.
• Have understanding/knowledge of GPS and/or total station setup at a site.
• Full Class 1, R, T & W Licence.
• Able to self-manage whilst onsite and provide direction to others working with you.
• Can do attitude.

Ongrade is currently working with the Waimakariri District Council to install culverts and swales at Woodend Beach. Once completed this project will help alleviate stormwater during rain events for the wider Woodend Beach community.
This week we completed the Rangiora Sewer Stage 8 Upgrades. This included rebuilding the intersection of King St & High Street to give Rangiora not only an upgraded sewer system but also enhanced the surrounding areas.
Ongrade recently completed a footpath project in Tuahiwi for Waimakariri District Council. Yesterday our General Manager and Senior Project Manager for the contract were honoured to be attending the official opening and naming of "Johnno's Way" footpath and blessing and dedication of a commemorative bench. The bench was installed to remember 2 passionate members of the Tuahiwi community who fought hard for the footpath installation to increase public safety.
All our guys have been smashing through there books and up skilling, today we got to hand over New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works Level 3 to Chris. Good job Chris.
Wilfield Rise Subdivision - The crews have been working hard out there and it is really starting to take shape. All earthworks are nearing completion, underground services are 90% complete in the initial stage and we are getting ready to put some asphalt on roads.
2 more of our staff striving towards upskilling and career progression, Sid gaining his NZ Certificate in Infrastructure Works Level 3 and Tyson gaining his NZ Certificate in Infrastructure Works Level 2. Well done lads!

Kaiapoi Community Hub & Croquet Club Lawn - Ongrade have just finished the first stages of this community development in Courtney Drive, Kaiapoi. Here at Ongrade we don't just do drainage & excavation works, we can tackle a diverse range of projects including sports fields.
The crews hit the ground running this year across various projects, from sports fields to concrete pipe to night works - Ongrade are out there doing it!
As a thank you to our crews we are closing on Monday 5th February so we can all enjoy a long weekend for some quality family time and a bit of a refresh.

Our crew has been busy on King Street in Rangiora carrying out Stage 8 of the sewer upgrades. We heading into night works over the next few weeks as we lay through the High Street roundabout. Doing these works at night should reduce interruption's to traffic.
We are hoping to fully complete this project by the end of March that will provide a much needed upgrade to Rangiora community.
Experienced Skilled Civil Drainlayer/Labourer
Ongrade is growing and we are looking to add a Skilled Civil Drainlayer/Labourer to our team.
Ongrade has a good forward workload for 2024 with some exciting upcoming projects where we need to bolster out drainlaying teams.
We are a North Canterbury company based in Kaiapoi specialising in civil construction and drainage.
We offer training/qualification opportunities to all employees and the ability to grow into other positions.
Ideally the right candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience in the civil industry. Experience in civil drainage is a must and experience in de-watering, working in and around deep trenches, and water reticulation would be an advantage.
With being a medium sized company, our employees are given great opportunities to be involved in all areas of the industry such as civil, earthmoving, drainage, and excavation.

• A full drivers’ licence.

Ongrade's newest addition to the fleet is a John Deere Pozi Track with sharpgrade blade and fully kitted out with Topcon GPS and total station machine control. This gives us the ability to prepare areas to within mm precision and greatly improve efficiency.
It has been working non stop since it was delivered to site and we are currently seeking an experienced operator.
Our crew has been busy at Ashley Gorge Holiday Park. We started with the construction of 3 large soak pits and then moved on to upgrading the water reticulation within the campground and picnic area, including new 25,000ltr & 30,000ltr water tanks and a new pump system and associated pipework and electrical work all housed in a new pump shed.

We have been flat out lately, with lots of work & lots of flood work for the district. I haven't had time to keep you posted on some of our latest contracts. Here's a small vid of one we are just finishing up with 3 weeks to go. This contract has kept two of our drainage crews busy for the past 4 months. With 2456m of 375mm pipe installed through 10 properties with man holes & existing connections, this has been a well performed contract by everyone evolved. Well done to all the team.
The Rangiora BMX track is getting a face lift & turned into an international track. As one of our crews gets established today, you will see some big changes over the coming weeks. I’ll keep you up to date. Make sure you hit the HD button to get the best view.

This project has been great, Hazeldine Construction are very good at what they do ( top lads ). As we finish off our final week Laying drains on site, it has been a pleasure working with this great company. Kaiapoi is looking better each day with projects like this on the go. Can’t wait to have a beer with a cool outlook.

The boys are pumping the pipe in. At our new Contract in Oxford for the WDC. Very tidy job keep it up lads.
Richard has just about finished some dozer work for the day, great job mate. This was sorting out the old Kaiapoi landfill, so there is more area up for use. This seems to be a great spot to walk the dog.
This is a small earthworks job the boys just finished. They have moved around 4000 m3 & shaped it all up with help from our gps unit. Ash & Corey have done a great job, WDC are very happy with the finished product.
