Entries for the 2023 GS Rallye have now closed. Many thanks to the 188 who have entered. The routes are being finalised over the next two weeks and you will be sent the routes after Labour Weekend.
This year we will be offering 3km of singletrack for those who would like to experience a bit of proper off road track without having to buy knobbly tyres. This will be at the start of the Ohakuri Forest section and we will have people there to help if you have trouble.
It’s going to be a great weekend, looking forward to seeing you all on the 27th. Vege and KR crew.

1928 BMW R47 | Germany 🇩🇪
At the start of motorcycle production, before winning the hearts of customers, BMW management set the main goal to create a powerful motorcycle for mass production. The first step was the R37 model - a powerful, but complex and expensive machine. The next step was to reduce production costs.
Model R47 occupies a place of honor among BMW motorcycles because it was truly advanced for its time. For example, roller bearings were used for the first time (in the design of the valve rocker arms), replaceable bushings, and an innovative control system (except for manual shifting). A spring front suspension and a cardan brake look unusual for a modern motorcyclist, but in general, such solutions were not inconvenient either then or now.
R47 flat-twin OHV engine was the same as the one used on the touring model R42, except its rating increased to 18 h.p. and the maximum speed increased to 110 km/h. BMW sold 1720 R47 motorcycles – ten times more than R37! Most of the R47 motorcycles were sold to German racing clubs.
The main reason for the R47 success was that BMW did not present the new model as a racing-only motorcycle. The model had been offering in a “bare” version, but the client could choose from many options, e.g. generator, horn, and headlight. A fuel tank of larger capacity was also offered as an option. With a larger tank, R47 might be a part of the «Gran Turismo» class.

Great news for GS fans, we're organising the next GS Rallye! We've got dates and an entry form sorted. The 2022 GS Rallye will take place near Rotorua at a fantastic facility - Lakes Ranch - on October 28-29, in conjuction with BMW Motorcycle Club Aotearoa New Zealand. All brands are welcome.
There'll be a sealed route, gravel route and some challenge sections (for those with approved tyres).
The price is only $195 per rider ($135 per pillion) which includes route sheets, two dinners, two breakfasts, an event t-shirt, sticker pack, and a sweep vehicle on both routes.
BMW Motorcycle Club members get a discount - $165 per rider.
You don't need to own a BMW to join the club and benefit from their many organised discounts.

GS RALLYE TO BE KIWI RIDER 350
Hello GS Rallye riders,
Due to the current Covid situation BMW New Zealand has made the decision to postpone the GS Rallye until such time that implemented Covid restrictions make it possible to run the Rallye in the way BMW would like.
But... despair not adventurers! We completely understand the frustration surrounding the continued postponements of many popular events, so... here at Kiwi Rider we've made the decision to run the event as the Kiwi Rider 350 Adventure Ride on March 19.
As was originally planned for the GS Rallye, the Kiwi Rider 350 will be based in and around Riverhead Forest following a similar format, with challenge sections for those of you with knobbly tyres. The Kiwi Rider 350 will use gravel roads within the forest as well as a selection of the best local gravel and sealed roads.
The Kiwi Rider 350 will use old school route sheets for navigation, which you can use to plan your own turn-by-turn route within your GPS unit or mapping app.
The cost for the Kiwi Rider 350 will be $135. This fee covers your entry, an event T-shirt, Saturday morning tea andcoffee, navigation route sheets and access fees, a cold beverage for after the ride and a meal on the Saturday afternoon/evening. There will also be a prize draw included, with the lucky winner walking (or riding) away with a set of Mitas tyres.
We'll be sending out entry forms next week. We look forward to welcoming you at the Kiwi Rider 350, let's make it a fantastic weekend away on our bikes.

The GS Rallye is on for March 18-19 based at Riverhead Forest, Waimauku. The route will take in approximately approx 330km of the finest gravel and sealed roads in the Lower Kaipara area, as well as gravel roads within the forest. There will be several challenge sections for those with knobbly tyres.
Catering details are still being finalised so pre-register now at [email protected] and we will send you the entry form as soon as we have it finalised.
In accordance with the current Covid requirements, this event will be available only to those with a valid Covid pass (Please do not comment on this as it is a legal requirement).
