The Oman National Football Team beat Japan in the Qatar 2022 World Cup Qualifiers

In Tokyo last week Oman surprised Japan in the opening game of the final World Cup qualifying round, winning 1-0 thanks to Issam Al Sabhi’s goal in the closing minutes.
Both teams struggled in very wet conditions but Oman broke Japan's defensive line several times and Al Sabhi netted the 88th-minute winner, only a few minutes after coming off the bench.
Oman’s coach Branko Ivankovic was thrilled with the teams historical victory.

Oman Pomegranate Season

During September-October, the Jabal Akhdar mountain in Oman transforms into a fruit bowl of delicious fruits — pomegranates, grapes, strawberries, raspberries, pears, apricots, plums, peaches, figs, walnuts and almonds, among others. But it is the demand for the Omani pomegranate which drives locals, expats and visitors to Nizwa and Jabal Akhdar to buy the sweet tasting fruit. While the number varies it is said that there are approximately 30,000 pomegranate trees growing across various villages in Jabal Akhdar which provides a valuable source of income for the mountain farmers. Visitors can find plenty of opportunities to purchase the fresh local produce at selling booths in some of the tourist sights or local markets. For this reason, along with spectacular mountaintop views it’s well worth a visit to Jabal Akhdar at anytime of the year but particularly in September and October.

Oman Silver

One of the best places to enjoy serious souvenir shopping in Oman is in Muttrah, a district of the capital Muscat. Set around the sparkling harbour, Muttrah is overlooked by historic watchtowers and shadowed by the Hajar Mountains. Near the district’s turquoise-tiled mosque is the labyrinthine Muttrah Souk.

NIZWA SOUQ, OMAN

The city, famous for its handicrafts and agricultural products, has an expansive souq with an array of products. It is one of the most important in the country besides Muttrah. The souq bustles with vendors selling everything from meat, fish, fruits and vegetables to spices, dates, gold and silverware. Nizwa is renowned for its silver jewelry which is considered to be the best in the country. The Omanis are masters in Khanjar making (curved dagger), recognised for its distinctive style and patterns. They also make copper ware, coffee pots, swords, leather goods and pottery.
